The worst thing is not going to the relatives house but driving from place to place to get there!

I think the worst thing about the holidays to me is probably cleaning up the mess. We don't celebrate or decorate for Halloween. Thanksgiving we have mostly his family in and it is a stressed out day between fighting with kids, cooking, cleaning, and trying to catch up on all the family news. Christmas is my favorite holiday we do decorate and exchange gifts but I buy gifts all throughout the year and i don't have to fight with the long lines when it rolls around. We give thanks at Christmas for all things heavenly and on earth. It is a time when I can truly say i am at peace. It brings great joy to me when my kids are all home and we get to share in the reason for the season.

There are two things I dislike: the amount of money I end up spending, and the house-cleaning.

The thing that is the worst about the holidays for me is the overall stress you are under. From the inlaws to making sure you have all the gift buying done and not broke after doing all the buying.

I agree with you, taking all the decorations down putting them away etc.... I leave my Christmas tree up past new year just so I don't have to take it down right away. Also my husband is armenian they celebrate Christmas on Jan. 6th so we leave it up for him.

The worst thing about the holidays is being all alone. Or, if you lost a loved one right before that holiday.

Definitely the cleaning up! I love Thanksgiving because we avoid the cleaning up...we have a family reunion every Thanksgiving where we have a restaurant banquet room reserved. We all get to eat, visit, exchange early Christmas gifts (since many live out of town/state) and then go on our merry ways. There is NO clean up...at least for us. So, we all really do get to enjoy the holiday in total relaxation.

I love Christmas but hate Thanksgiving. It is a holiday for (in my experience) men to sit around and watch tv while women work their fingers to the bone preparing a crazy amount of food. The men then eat and retire to the couch while the women use their bony fingers to clean up the mess. Oh, and we get to take care of a bunch of children at the same time because the guys dozed off during the big game. Then if you are really unlucky, you get to go to work the next day. I have honestly tried to convince my family to make this a "let's order a pizza" get together but nobody listens to me. It is ridiculous. As for in-laws, my mother in law is the only one around here with a brain. She sometimes orders the whole meal from the Hy Vee deli or takes us out for Chinese food. You gotta love that! HAHAHAHA

The worst thing about holidays is how much it costs to celebrate it and all the fighting that goes on with my husbands family

What happens when you become in-laws to your daughter-in-law? What she should feel about you? Therefore, entertaining people, looking after elders in as much our capacity permits, cleaning up the house is all part of the life. May be it sounds difficult, lacklustre affair but again good and bad is a lovely mixture in the game of life.
