Would you like to see the Simpsons age?

Matt Groening says that Bart will be 10 forever. Wouldn't you like to see him be 11? I know they have done these "future Bart and Lisa" stories, but would you want them to stay 10 and 8 or would you like to see them reach 11 and 9? When they started the series Bart was 9 and Lisa was 7.

I've thought about this before and it could be kind of interesting but it would also be risky because fans might not like it. Someone said have them age 1 year every 5 years. If that was the case Bart would be almost 15 now and getting ready for his learner's permit (in some states at least). Lisa would be just about 13 and Maggie would be almost 5. That's a big difference from the start of the show. I'd say instead of once every five years how about just once. South Park started in 3rd grade and the kids moved up to 4th grade a few seasons later and have been there since. Or, how about steal from the show 24 and have each episode represent 1 day, after 365 episodes they're a year older. That would mean just over a year has passed.

I'm glad you liked my response. That was a great question you came up with and the Simpsons is a great show.

I'd like to see them age too. But in the future type shows, I never liked how Bart acted or looked. I want to see Maggie grow up!

Thanks for answering. I, too, would like to see Maggie older. In the "future" episodes, she never talks. I think that's because no one is regularly assigned to do her voice. But, I think she should still talk, anyway.

I think if you changed their age then it wouldnt be the same. i like the fact they stay the same age, but as you said above they have the occasional episode where they are older and u see them in college and when lisa is married, so in a sense we sort of know what they would look like and perhaps what there lifes would be like. But we always get them back at their innocent youth, supposedly. And its more fun to watch there antics then. For me leave them young forever, even maggie.

I think the show is good the way it is. A TV show would have to stop if its characters aged. Thats what happened to Malcom in the Middle and I don't want the simpsons to stop being on TV!

Yeah, that happens on a lot of live-actor shows.

I have always wanted to see Lisa and Bart age and especially Maggie. I think that it would be interesting to see Maggie start school to see what she would be like. But I can also see why some people would want them to stay the way that they are.

Yeah, me too. I wouldn't want them to age much, but at least a little.

it would totaly ruin the show if they kept growing. its cute that an 8 year old is smarter than a 36 year old. i hate when they grow.. on the other hand it would be intresting for a little while, thats why they have the episodes where its the future

If you have the Simpsons age, it ruins the show because Bart wouldn't be as cool as a teenager.

Bart as a teenager! Boy, that would be something to see, eh?

Thanks! I would like to see them older, too. But, mostly I would just like them to age a year or so at first. I don't think it would change the premise that much.

You can't let them grow up too much because that will change the whole format of the show. Bart being a teenager wouldn't in my opinion be as funny as bart the little terror that he is now.

Thanks for answering. I think that's the answer that Matt Groening would have given, too. It just seems to me that they do way too much stuff for not even getting a year older.
