How can you help a young person with HIV/AIDS not to despare?

I was approached by a young man in his mid twenties. His eyes full with tears. I asked him what was wrong, he said he was HIV positive. I did not know what to tell him. What would you say to this young man who thiks he is damaged goods? I need help please.
