Lately I have been thinking of opening my own business and start being my own boss. I thought about lots of things to open. I have thought about the restaurant business, but it's a hastle, it takes all your life and you have to be there 24/7. I fund thats too much work and life sacrificing. So lately I have been thinking of opening my own tanning salon business. It's very flexible, you don't need much experience in that and you won't sacrifice your life for it and you don't have to be there 24/7. I hope I'll get the loan I need from the government as for a small business loan and we'll take it from there. What do you think about this idea? What would you do in that situation? Are thinking of owning your own business?

I am planning on starting my own restaurant consulting business. I think the biggest decision maker for determining what to do is what you have already done and already know. I have been in the restaurant industry for a long time. I know it, I love it, and with my experience, I can do alot of good in getting restaurants to have a more pleasurable dining atmosphere and possibly a more extensive clientele. Good luck to you in whatever you do!!

Well it's like I have to so many things like owning a restaurant, that needs experience. Tanning business don't need much to learn, maybe like a month time.

No, I don't own a restaurant and I never have. It's a great occupation to be in if you like that stuff. I served in many different aspects of the restaurant world. You have to find your niche and go with it. There's a tanning salon about 30 miles from my house that offers tanning in 10 minutes or less, and you can stand up or sit down while tanning. It sounds really cool. Oh and there's even spray on tans now too. If you know the business, then you should have no problems starting your own business.

I would say, do some serious soul searching first. Realities most times are a direct opposite to your ideal scenarios. What are your motives and interests in starting a business? How will you know if you will like your current business idea in its present form? How you done enough research in the particular field and know what the business entails? Do you have enough work experience in your chosen field? I would say, find a job in your chosen field and then rethink your options) Flexibility in a business sometimes is not good, because income is dependent on how many customers you will have and what specific periods will most customers come to you? When your business is seasonal, it also means your income is seasonal. Will the seasonal income be enough to cover the expenses and salaries/wages, etc during the other times of the year when business is virtually non-existent? You can't afford to open shop for 3 months and keep the shop closed for the other 9 months. You won't look good. And your kind of business would have to be in a more accessible location, like in a shopping mall, for instance. (Customers won't like going to a home and you have to charge less because of customer perception of your business). I understand shopping malls have fixed rules as to when you open or close shop every day. Every legitimate business idea comes with a price on your time and energy, more so with the traditional brick and mortar types. You may to factor in renovations, employees, taxes, salaries (including your own) and most times, you really do have to work an entire 10-hour day. You also have to figure out if your business can sustain loan repayments after you deduct everything else in expenses. I have been in business for more than 30 years and I have seen ideals smashed to smithereens in less than 3 months because the owners are blind to essentials. Food for thought but I am not discouraging you from starting your own business. Starting your own business is good but proceed with caution, especially in these times when customers are not buying. Your kind of business falls into the "non-essential, luxury" kind and at a time when people are going for essentials like food, shelter and clothing, I would say a restaurant business (provided you are a good cook yourself, don't depend on hired help because they can go away or eat up your profits with demands for higher pay) would have a better chance for survival and even profit-making in the first year.

one good thing about website stores, you dont have to worry about rent, insurance, and employers..etc. one bad thing about webstore, there are so many of them, you would have to find someone who is really talented in web design to make your page outshine all of the others. believe for whatever you plan on selling there at least 75 more people out there with the same ideas and half of them have the same suppliers, unless you are marketing and making them all on your own. hope you are successful in whatever you decide.

I think that's a good idea. By starting your own bussiness, you also help others by providing them a job. I really want to open a bakery and cake shop someday, because I like making desserts. I'm dreaming about having famous shops like Jessline K. cakes that are available both in Indonesia, Singapore, and any other countries. My suggestion is, make your dreams come true while you still have the chance! Good Luck!

i suggest you choose something that's near your heart...for example, u like getting a massage then start a massage parlor or maybe you love fashion or clothes then you can start a clothes salon or u can start being a freelance fashion designer...the reason why i suggested on ur choosing something thats near your heart is because if ur doing something u love u wont mind the time u will invest on it and the effort that u will put into it...if ur doing soemthing u dont really like but was just forced into it because u think its a good business then that will not be a good idea. u will soon get tired of it and u will keep looking at ur watch or u can find hundreds of excuses why u cant be at ur shop manning the business.

This sounds like it could be very nice and sounds as if you have put some thought into it. I would like to start my own daycare out of my home, so that I can remain home with my children, but the funds just are not there. It doesn't seem like it should cost much to open a daycare but really it does.

I am also planning to have my own business. I am planning of putting up a small internet cafe, an internet cafe that is focused on online gaming. It was suppose to push through last december 2006 but we encountered some problems regarding the capital. Actually it was a partnership between me and my boyfriend. Having your own business is really an achievement.

I can only say good luck,I have been selfemployed for over 25 years, and I have not stopped working full time till I semi retired two years ago. no matter what profetion you choose, you will have to spend all your time at it,and it will still take around 5 years before you start realy making a living at it. in your case, you will need to start with at least two beds, plus all the ointments and towels and such, then build up a client list,if you wish to succeed, take it easy and do not try rushing it. good luck.

Fair play to all of you that have your own business, I live in Ireland and the only people who have any money are those that have their own business. I would love to open my own but I have no idea on what kind of business to open. Also a lack of capital? But |I would think that if you had a decent idea it would be unstoppable. good luck!

Try to apply for government grants or bank loan. Sometime the government gives you money that you don't even have to pay back, especially if you are a beginner and a young entrepreneur.

I mean it's not the best earning, but we're talking about $50,000.00-$70,000.00 profit a year with a tanning salon.
