The Bashing of Americans

I thought I'd get this off my chest. I've noticed several posts and even more after the execution of Saddam by people bent on generalizing and prosecuting Americans for his hanging. First off I want to say anyone who commits crimes against humantiy deserves the death penalty. I'm not American I'm a Canadian citizen. I've met rude Americans and I've met very nice Americans. I've met rude Canadians and nice ones. I've met people from all over the world some rude, some nice. Don't gatherize an entire population based on the government that runs their country by degrading the whole of the people; that in itself is prejudice. In 2000 I was heading to Minnesota to spend time with some very good friends of mine who were born i the US and others who were there on work contract from South Africa. Thanks to extremists who know the loopholes of our system I was detained for two hours at the border in a snowstorm and why? Because some person tried to cross at one of the BC borders with a trunk full of explosives. Canada has been marred by terrorists making us look like a country where they can plan, scheme out their what? self-professed right to kill? I also have good friends i the US who's chidlren are in Iraq right now. Do any of you who think all Americans are evil think that these parents are sitting in front of the television cheering on this ugly war? These parents worry day in and day out for the kids; they are constantly on edge thiking that possibly that next call will be the one. On 9-11 I sat horrified watching the twin towers go down. If you think that watching innocent people jumping out of an 89th floor window to escape the horror was something to be proud of or cheer for I sat think again and by the way to those who did applaud 9-11 and degrade US citizens the way you do I wish to say thank you for cheering the death of some of my fellow Canadians and many other people from all over the world who were simply there working. Guess I'm rambling by I just wanted to say that I enjoy coming on myLot and reading the discussions when I'm having my first coffee in the morning before heading to work but enough is enough. Slamming each and every American into one giant ball of hatred thinking that they all think and feel the way their president does then I got news for you; before you go on calling them hate mongers take a good look at yourself, you are the exact image of hatred you profess them to be and before you go on calling them hate mongers look at all of the American citizens who have protested against the war and have done so for decades; are these people fighting for hate or for peace? and what about you with the posts of hate? are you for peace?

You have made some very good points. I hope everyone will read this post. Its really annoying when people dont realise that our government makes decisions that we dont have control over. I have to say that I am really sick of all the Bush bashing though. I dont think its fair to blame him for things that went on when he wasnt even in office. The previous administration was not doing much about homeland security.. I dont believe it would have mattered who was in office, I still think no matter who was or will be in office... the terrorists will still look for a reason to attack and create them....just to further their hate campaign against Americans.

People don't realize that HIS own people tried and hung him, we just delivered him to them. That's why and I repeat we should no be the world's babysitter, we need to take care of our own backyards first, but we won't Americans/Canadians are famous for helping out others in crisies even tho we get no pay back(Allied troops excpeted of course)

Exactly. We are too busy involved in everyone else's issues to fix our own. I see many people interviewed on tv from all over that are very happy about what happened, some give credit to the US. Others are very happy we helped free their country even if just a little bit. If all the other countries hated us, why would they imitate us? How come there are McDonalds all over China? How come or musicians travel the world yet we don't see that many foreign musicians in the US? How come they watch our movies? It's obvious there are a lot of people out there who like us! but the news and sites like this tend to make those who hate us stand out more.

THANKYOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!! Im so tired of listening to it. I think they should turn their attention and be more concerned about their own country if they feel that way about us. Everyday I thank god I was born in the US, and I will never change that opinion.

Rambling was a way of life for me here last week. I was just hopping all over the place answering back. I was rubbed so raw by the bashing that I was starting to see insults where there probably were none. I re-read one posting and realized I'd probably read more into it than the guy meant. That's when I signed off for a couple of days. When I came back I stayed with the "cat" threads and the "favorite color" questions. (Those postings have their place.)....Anyway, thanks for this discussion. I think it's the first time in two or three days I've read a discussion that had the word "American" in the heading and I wasn't sure exactly what I'd find.

All the points you noted is true my friend but one thing these are not done by the whole amerrican peoples but by the american leaders who think themselves as the god this world who is saving all the other country. But some peopled are very kind hearted the funds for the orphanages and missionaries was mostly raised in ammerica only so am not saying they best but they are not worst also

i think the bashing of americans is wrong i have personally spoken to many americans while i was working in a call centre in india. i feel that they are very good people, may only a handful of them create problems and we should not blame the entire america for that.

unfortunately on any international message board there will be many people that try to slam Americans and our President when they in fact have very little concept of the whole subject they are discussion. They just like jumping on the Anti-American bandwagon. There are members of certain countries that do this more often than others, but it happens pretty much on every international message board.

I'm not American, I'm a Brit, and I agree wholeheartedly with the way President Bush handled the Saddam Hussein followers. Somebody, somewhere, had to take a stand, and Bush did just that. Tony Blair was branded here for going along with him, but I'm glad he did. These terrible people attacked our country too and I, for one, am glad something positive was done. I know you shouldn't fight war with war, but what the terrorists do is to strike fear into the hearts of every being who doesn't support them. Why bash Americans for that. I love the Americans. I have a lot of great friends out there, one of them very affected by 9/11, when she saw and smelt every single happening and odour. That lady is scarred for life! So, I agree, quit bashing the Americans and clean up your own back yards. Americans.. even Brits are not the root cause of all these problems.

Good discussion, I'm not sure that people understand what they see in "media", because much of our media is tainted to a degree, so their perception of us is what we have put out there! All the posts on here that have American hatred, are most likely uninformed!

Most of the reporters in India come from the villages. They are brain washed by the dirty politicians. That is why they hate America without any strong reason. It is a sick fashion to talk against America now.

That is a wonderful post, and I have given you a + rating for it. You brought tears to my heart. Bless you dear. I am for peace myself. And all people have good and bad in each race and religion. The leaders do not make a whole nation a certain character. Thank you for posting this. I hope it can reach the hearts of some hard hearts.

Thank you very much for your ramblings. It was very nice to read. I know that my friends and I are from America and just because we are does not mean that we back up everything that our government does. Thank you so much for defending all of us and I hope that everyone here reads this.

Great discussion topic. I have thought exactly the same thing. There are lots of posts which are anti American, I have seen anti-semitism and anti-israeli posts also. Its just really sad that this hatred exists in the world. I think every citizen in every country in the world needs to look at themselves and consider their views towards other people and countries. Politics have caused a lot of this hatred and there are reasons why it exists. However its amazing how many people can't look beyond the propaganda, and I'm talking about all countries here. For people who have lost loved ones in any country from these politics are bound to be anti whoever did it so lets just stop hating and killing each other. However I do think some people thrive on it for the sense of inportance and power it gives them.
