What Is The Hardest Thing About Learning To Drive?

I passed my test back in 1989 after failing my first test. I hated roundabouts, it was a roundabout that I failed on. It took me ages to master them, thankfully I don't give them a second thought now, but then I found them a nightmare.

Hi wolfie, first of all I did not get what the roundabouts mean:(. Personally I was terrible in the first days of learning the driving in backing up the car. Now also I don't like that part that much lol. Also I am not expert in parallel parking, it takes little time than general parking for me:). I passed my driving test at the first attempt though.

In my car the hardest thing to learn about driving for me was that if I was a polite and courteous driver I'd never, ever get out of a side road onto a main road .. DOH! Okay .. I was just too hesitant ... but the truth is in the mad bumper to bumper traffic we have nowadays you have to just keep inching your way out and go for it ... ! On my motor bike I very quickly had to learn that motorists simply will not see me coming and I had to take avoiding action many a time

I would hate to ride a motorcycle you are so exposed and you see and hear about so many motorcycle accidents because the car driver didn't see the poor guy. I have to say when I get behind the wheel of a car I am the most calmest person you could know, out of the calm and I've got a temper on me if anyone upsets me LOL

In all the years I rode a bike I never had an accident ... but I always felt safer on a bigger bike as you have better speed and manoeverability to get out the way more easily .. I am lucky that I was in the era where 'rockers' were plentiful .. it was one great big club .. and I am proud to say I was a member of the famous '69 Club' that did mercy dashes for various medical jobs ...

Keeping track of all the other cars around you, parallel parking. I failed my driving exam twice and gave up for a while (LOL). It's really difficult to get your license here. Oh and we have roundabouts all over the place.

I know the feeling, we have roundabouts all over here too! Mini roundabouts are the worst, thankfully they didn't have any of those when I first started driving. Who invented mini roundabouts? Bad bad mistake! Thanks for sharing

I failed on a roundabout 3 times lol then i gave up! So have never passed my test. Being a single mum and Bringing up my daughter on my own, (got no help from ex as he had the other 2 daughters living with him) so I could never afford any more lessons or a car anyway.

I think the parking was the toughest but if you practice enough, it doesnt have to be...but as you say, back at that time when we did it....alot of us were scared...

The hardest thing about learning to drive is having enough confidence and assurance in yourself to be able to learn and succeed with it. I am also extremely worried as it always seems that you need to have eyes up your rear end because people, especially in the UK, are appauling drivers, there is so much aggression and hostility, a ridiculous need for speed on the least suitable roads, and then the rest of us suffer with road humps and speed cameras everywhere. Not to mention the number of people the insist on using a mobile while driving. One woman yesterday was going up the ramp of the multistorey car park with the phone glued to her ear with one hand, changing gear with the other and goodness only knows what she was using to stear the car. I gave her such a dirty look. I can think of a hundred reasons why I am put off driving.

I found making not so wide turns to be my biggest challenge when I was learning how to drive. My driver ed teacher would say that I need to shorten my turns when going around a corner. I have no problems with that now. Parallel parking is something else that was challenging and still is at times.

Parallel parking. Hated it, still can't do it. I'll walk two blocks before I even try. Thank God there are so many parking lots now that parallel parking is no longer a requirement on the driver's test around here.

when learning to drive I hated those green lights that mean yeild. they changed it from green means go to green with an arrow means go and a solid green means yeild and go when you have a chance. I still kind of hate those things. They make me nervous and I feel pressure from the people behind me. I really do not like those things. Also I cannot parallel park for the life of me. I am glad that wasnt on my test. =)
