Do you eat oats?

Philippines

As a kid my grandpa have a habit of cooking too much oatmeal for himself and giving some of them to me. I love eating oatmeal in the morning, specially when I mix milk into it. I haven't tried mixing fruits into my oatmeal though. There are more ways to eat oats, cookies, oat crackers, oat bars with fruit. The popularity of oatmeal and other oat products increased after the January 1997 decision by the Food and Drug Administration that food with a lot of oat bran or rolled oats can carry a label claiming it may reduce the risk of heart disease, when combined with a low-fat diet. So how many of you eat oats (in any way) at least once a week?

That's not a problem cause you can always buy them.. I have a friend who sells oatmeal cookies and they have it with dried mangoes.. it really tastes good. In case you want to try baking oatmeal cookies here's a recipe.. you can ask help when making the cookies anyway. Ingredients: 1/2 cup vegetable shortening 1/4 cup butter* 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar 1 cup granulated cane sugar 1 egg 1/4 cup water 1 teaspoon real vanilla 1 cup unbleached, all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon sea salt*** 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 3 cups oatmeal 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips Instructions: Preheat oven to 350F. Cream the shortening, butter, sugars, and egg until they get that wonderful yellow color. Add the water and vanilla and process until mixed. Sift the flour, salt, and soda together and beat into the butter-sugar mixture. Fold in the oatmeal. (Mixture will be stiff.) Mix in the chocolate chips. Use the "drop" method to make the cookies, spooning out about a tablespoon of batter for each cookie onto a prepared cookie sheet. Leave the cookie mounds rounded for chewier cookies or flatten them slightly with a fork for crunchier cookies. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

I like eating oatmeal for breakfast. I get on a roll and eat it 3 or 4 days in a row. Then I lose my taste for it. So, I will eat regular cereals for a few days. I sometimes mix spices in it to give it some flavor. Like ginger, nutmeg or cinnamon. It is filling and a great food that is lower cost. I would like to believe all the health benefits, but who knows for sure.

When this happens to me I see to it that my alternative food is healthy too. I'll try to mix nutmeg and cinnamon in my oatmeal to make it taste a little different.

Never did like it much like probably you do, but my sister Josephine and Yolanda loves it maybe they also aware about its benefits in counteracting bad cholesterols. Well I just don't enjoy the taste that perhaps is the reason.

Maybe you need to drink more water along with the oats to help ease the constipation. Thanks for the reply!

Yep! I could eat it almost everyday for breakfast. Sometimes I even enjoy it as a late night snack. I rather enjoy a good bowl of oatmeal - just not plain. I like some brown sugar or maple syrup added to it for flavor. Do you think that defeats the health benefits purpose? I also really enjoy Quaker instant oatmeal packets. My husband only likes the old fashioned oats.

Do you mean Subway as in the place that sells sandwiches or the underground train? There are many stores here that sells oatmeal cookies, some of them are sugar free while some have chocolate chips in the cookies. I'd like to learn how to cook oatmeal cookies so that I wouldn't have to buy again, it's much cheaper to make cookies by yiurself.

As a kid we served oatmeal every cold morning in the winter. Now it is important for us to eat them to help reduce our cholesterol. I eat them in the winter more than the summer. I put milk, sugar and butter in mine. They are really good with all thes things in them, but without the sugar I don't like them so much.

Oh yes! I have a bowl daily! Sometimes I also have it as a bedtime snack. I add fresh strawberries or bananas or some frozen blueberries...Yum! I also put oatmeal into my meatloaf rather than bread! The health benefits of oatmeal are numerous! It helps to fight cancer, helps regulate blood sugar, lowers 'bad' cholesterol while raising 'good' cholesterol. It is just a 'wonder' food! The following website outlines its many benefits! http://health.learninginfo.org/benefits-oatmeal.htm

I eat oats because I have some problems with my bowel movement. I need to consciously add fiber to my diet if I want it to be regular. Otherwise, I'd suffer from getting bloated and miserable :D
