Do we have free will?

I am not talking necessarily about whether there is a God or Fate which predetermines our actions. I am thinking more about how our childhood and genes shape the person that we become. For each decision that we make, does the person that we are prevent us from taking any other path?

I believe that with something called brain power/development that we have the ability to break free the genetic codes we were born with. Some kung fu masters have litterally changed their bone structure as according to their particular style. There is a master of the crane style who has addapted and elongated the bone on the instep attatched to the big toe, to mimic that of a crane. If a human can completely change a "consistant" thing in all humans (bone structure) then the human mind could easily accept things like free will, give us the ability to choose our destiny almost as if shopping from a catologue of potentials. So YES we do have free will and when we REALLY recognize this our potentials become impossible to measure. peace Dissposition

Takes some massive self-development to reach a level of awareness that allows you to be really free in your choices though.

So many people say "Well if I could do it all over again" the thing is they would probably make the same choices. After all you'd still have the same knowledge at the time, the same options, the same beliefs. You'd come up with the same choice. The only time it would be different is if you could forsee what each choice would make. Each choice we make forms us. We build off those choices. When it comes time to make another choice we think about what we did in the past and go from that. Each step we take down one path takes us further down it, it is only at the forks that we can alter our path. When we look at the options we have we usually take what we know instead of taking a leap of faith onto another path which might lead no where.

I have a strange view on this. I think we have choices, but the thing is, we only ever do the one thing anyway, so the choices are irrelevant. we cant control wat choices we make, because we're going to make them anyway. I dont really tie this with god or fate, but yea. its just weird.

what i personally belives is that life are predestined by God or rather by genes as what you have shared but ultimately decided by us.and also a big YES, you and i have a free will to decide on our future or destiny, our path.life philosophy might influence you, genes may predetermines you, environment may shape you,but but ultimately the final decision is in your hand.no one can steal it from you. free will is yours.thanks
