Well when I went to Canada about 10 years ago all you needed is a drivers licence. You have to tell them why you are going there and that its.

Well a lot of things have changed since 9/11. It depends on how you travel. If you cross the border by car you will not need a passport until 2008 if you fly as of January 2007 you will need a passport. If you don't have one expect an interview and delays.

As some people have suggested it depends how you travel to Canada. Definitely if you plan to fly get a passport.

Yes you will need a passport. Starting January 1, 2007 any travel outsit of the United States requires a passport. If you take your children with you, make sure you have a copy of their birth certificates also. We went to Canada for a quick visit while we were visiting my Grandma in northern Minnesota in September and we got grilled coming back since we didn't have our childrens birth certificates. Even with passports, be prepared for lots of questions coming back to the United States.
