Alternative to Potpourri - Make Your Own Scented Rocks

United States
January 6, 2007 7:28pm CST
Place rocks in a bowl or dish to scent a room. A nice alternative to potpourri! 1/2 cup plain flour 1/2 cup salt 1/4 teaspoon essential oil (your favorite scent) 2/3 cups boiling water Food coloring, if desired In bowl, mix dry ingredients well. Add essential oil, and boiling water to dry ingredients. (Scent will be strong, but will fade slightly when dry.) For colored stones, blend in food coloring, one drop at a time until desired shade is reached. Blend ingredients, and form balls into different shape and sizes to look like stones. Allow stones to dry.

How cool! That sounds wonderful! I'm gonna try this as soon as I can. I've never done anything with essential oil, can it be readily and inexpensively bought? What would be the best place for me to buy the oil? I've just got to do this!

I have been using Boleks Craft Supplys for over 20 years for my supplies. They sell essential oils on their site or in their books. Here is a link to them. http://www.bolekscrafts.com/

I used to have a recipe that involved using the peels and seeds left from making apple sauce, and cinnamon, essential oils and the fixative orris root. You made little balls and dried them and put them in little sleeves of colored fabric. Those were good too.

I love Potpourri and your idea is great and I will have to try it. I love burning scented candles and all, but I only burn the ones in a jar as I don't want a fire. But the scented rocks would be nice to place like the bathrooms and bedrooms. About how long does the scent last??
