Haircuts done at home.

The last time I took a pair of scissors out to cut my child's hair (13 years ago) was my last time. My son needed a trim. I got out the scissors and trimmed his hair as best I could. About 15 minutes later he came out of the bathroom. He had a ballcap on his head and told me that he would wear the hat until his hair grew out. He also said that he wouldn't hold it against me when he got older. That was the last of the home haircuts. My grandson, Troy, is looking a bit scruffy. Many times over the past month I have wanted to grab the scissors and give him a quick trim. My memories of the last haircut have saved him from suffering the same as my children. I promised him that I will bring him to the barber for a haircut after he gets out of school today. We disagree on styles. He wants a buzz, I want a neat cut.

I dont see anything wrong with a buzz cut after all its not like he wants a mohawk lol, i have 2 boys that i regurlary give home hair cuts to , one always wants a buzz since he has curly hair and the other wants a slight buzz in the back with a lil lenth on the top after doing this for yrs its become 2nd nature to me ;) i dont have to worry about the girls hair since we dont cut our hair until there is enough lenghth to donate to locks of love so they get a cut maybe once a yr , then i usually do a layered cut , you can do this buy just sitting them on the counter and brushing all their hair forward twards their face and cutting straight across, when ya flip it all back it will come to a V tip at the end and be naturally layered ;) hope this helps ! ~M~

Troy with a buzz cut - Troy with a Buzz Cut
He looks like a q-tip when he gets a buzz cut. Here is a photo of him with his Opa. He got gum in his hair and his mother's stupid now ex idiot took the buzzers to him. The idiot didn't think to use peanut butter to remove the gum.

Me, my sister and my neice donated our hair about 3 years ago. I have always wanted to grow my hair back, but all my friends keep telling me I'm too old for long hair. Well, I've finally decided I'm not so I'm letting it grow again. It wont take long :) I have always kept it at least shoulder length, and some say it's already long, but not for me! My nephew had to get his hair cut for a job and we all got on his case because he didn't donate it - he had VERY long, pretty hair too... He was so frustrated that he had to cut it that he totally forgot about donating it.

LOL My mom is a hair dresser so I don't have to worry about this. I get free haircuts, colors, etc. She teases me about cutting my sons hair. I tell her he isn't getting his first haircut until he is a year old and she tells me all the time she's going to cut it. She won't really cut it until I tell her to but she enjoys teasing me about it.

I cut hair at home all the time! Nothing fancy though. I used to do my husbands with the razor clippers and just choose the attachment the corresponded to the length he wanted. Then one day I decided to try a comb and sissors on my son (age 2). It went really well. Since then I have graduated away from the clippers and now cut sons hair, my husbands, my father-in-laws and my daughters (trim the length) at home. None have them have ever complained.

I hope that you were able to resist the temptation to trim Troy's hair and got him to the barber! I remember trying to trim my bangs once when I was in high school. It seems that you trim a little bit, then you need to even it up a little bit, then the other side looks stupid so you trim that... I have NEVER gone near my hair since then! I just started to color my own hair (due to financial constraints of being out of work) after many years of paying a lot of money to have it colored every 6 weeks. I'll leave the task of haircuts to the professionals, that's for sure.

You know, I haven't had a proper haircut in probably at least two years. I just trim my bangs when they need them, and a few other places. For some reason, the back of my hair doesn't tend to grow any longer than a bit below shoulder length. In some ways this is good - after all, it's saving me money on haircuts! *laugh* But in other ways it makes me sad, because I've always longed to have longer hair.

My hair was once down to my waist in length. I chopped it to my shoulders and now wear it just above my shoulders. I still have long hair envy, but love the way my hair is now.

I cut my kids hair only if I dont have the time or money to take them to get it done. I havent embarrassed them yet so I guess its ok. I cut my bangs myself usually so I dont go often for myself either. My son likes his hair long and it looks ok on him although I do like the nice neat shorter styles. The way I look at it is its just hair. If its buzzed then it will grow back. If its long they may cut it later on. A persons hair seems to give them some of their character so thats why I let my kids choose their own styles.

I have a friend do mine. As for my husband he works in a kitchen so I buzz his down with the clippers. Right now I also trim my daughters bangs. I haven't went and got her hair cut yet. hers is so nice , it doesn't tangle yet so im letting it grow as long as I can. I know when the time comes though both my kids will go to a shop to get theres done. I don't trust myself to do anything other than bangs.LOL

I use the clippers on my husbands and my sons hair. I give all my daughters trims with the sizzors. I trim my own hair then every six months I go to a professional hairdresser for a tidy up. I really don't like hairdressers as they always seem to take off more than what you want.

I always cut my own hair just for the very reason you speak of regarding a stylist. They never got it right, always took too much off. I have found one that I have been using for 4 years and she hasn't done me wrong yet. And she knows that if I don't like it, she will fix it or else!

I have long hair and I trim it, like once every 2.5-3 months.... I have a "hair trimming" obsessed sis, whom whenever we meet the one thing she wants to do is to cut my hair someway.... her hands itch all the time..... I let her do my hair once before, but it turned out to be a real disaster.... she only wants to cut regardless of the result.... I didn't let her trim my hair again, but instead go to saloons or friends who are good at that... but recently I found out she became very good at that with her other friends, and says she wants to make it a career...maybe I'll consider letting her playing with my head a bit...

Actualy i used to get haircuts from my siblings when i was small. I mean seriously my dad who was loyalist towards some VERY BADD AND LITTERALY BAD JOB barber shop. He kepped bringing us there until my sibling learnt to cut hair. After that i never had a few spots that weren't even cut! I finaly got a full hair cut and not a half butt hair cut.

My husband only went to a barber for his cuts. He looked like he went to a barber. I took him to my stylist and he likes the way she does his hair. Oddly though, he still refers to her as his barber.

I'll bet you did a pretty good job on the hair cut but because of fads out there it's not exactly what the kids want.

I've trimmed the the bangs on Little Miss. Not liking the bangs, but the wisps of hair kept getting in her eyes. Had to do something.

@rebelann I wore bangs a few times in my life. They are a lot of work to maintain. I prefer not to have them. Hoping that the bangs on Little Miss won't take long to grow out.

My mom did that to me and my sis once!! We wanted shoulder length hair and it ended up looking like she took a bowl to our heads!! That was when I was 7, so about 20 years ago, but I'll never forget it cause we both hated it!! Now I wish I could get that look back sometimes!! But I am trying to grow my hair long...it's past my shoulders right now. But!!! My oldest son, I used to "trim" his hair, and it really did look like I took a bowl to it (didn't notice until I saw it in pictures)!! So now I take clippers to it and make him more "stylish", lmao!! I am just afraid for my youngest because trim time is coming near!!!!!

I wish sometimes that I didn't cut my children's hair. This part Sunday, a better part of my morning was cutting all the boys' hair and my partner's hair! Having to do four different boys and my partner takes some time. I am not a professional, so I am not as quick at it as a person that does it every day. I do their hair about once a month. And I would think that after how many years I have been doing their hair, I would be faster at it. I even have buzzer to make it faster. But I am more comfortable with scissors when it coming to doing the top and blending in the sides. It is such a chore. I sometimes ask my partner if I really have to do it or if we can afford to take all the boys and him to a barber. But I always know the answer...I have to cut their hair. *sigh* LOL

I wholeheartedly believe in the old buzzer. That's the only way my son and husband will have it cut. I use it on them and do a great job. Actually, how could you mess up. LOL I, on occasion have tried the scissor technique on CJ but ended up having to finish with the buzz. Maybe I'll read a book some day on how to give haircuts.

the last haircut or any haircut done at home(apart from shaving) is the cutting off of hair down under, n it has to be done carefully as i dont believe in shaving them off but only trimming..
