Bumper Stickers

Our local police departments canvass every year for money donations. I do give them a small amount because they try to do a good job...but I wonder do you think that some people donate because if they get pulled over for a traffic no-no, or are involved in an accident, that the cop who is writing down their tag number will see the sticker and go easier on them?

I just donated a small amount recently to our local police for their DWI campaign although they keep on asking if I was comfortable in my donation and saying it is all optional. I think there is a certain percentage that the cop will go easy on a "minor" traffic violation if they see you have a donor sticker so that the next time they solicit, you'll be more than happy to oblige.

That is an interesting thought, as well as probably quite true in the cases of many people. It would totally not surprise me if there were many people who donated just for that reason. Others probably are like you, and donating for the right reasons.

I'm sure that most people who donate money, and get a bumpersticker or window decal, hope that if they get pulled over, just get a warning. But I don't think that it really works like that.

I know this happens and it is ashamed because everyone should abide by the same set of laws. It's sad but in this world it's who you are and who you know.
