Do you think "beautiful" people have an advantage?

I've seen small studies that say yes. Our society as a whole base everything on looks. If 2 people come in for a job interview with identical credentials, the beautiful person will get the job before the "ugly" one does. If a beautiful woman drops something on the sidewalk, people will rush to help her. If an "ugly" one drops something they walk right past her. Do you think there really is a big difference in how society acts towards outter beauty?

Yes, I do agree. Ever since I was sixteen or so, I've been given discounts, free food, bumped ahead in lines, given free drinks at bars, let into clubs without paying... and all because I fit a media ideal of what's attractive. For a long time I was a tall, skinny blond with big blue eyes and double Ds. I have had to fill out two job applications in my life. All my high school jobs, I walked in and was hired on the spot. The managers were male. I cut my hair, dyed it black, stopped wearing makeup and started wearing baggy clothes that hid my figure. All that preferential treatment? Stopped completely. I don't agree with this at all. Yes, I've benefited from it, but that doesn't mean it's okay. There's absolutely no reason to judge a person's worth based on their looks. I want to be judged on who I am and what I offer as a person, not because I look a certain way.

beauty will last. being beautiful is doesn't mean that you get respect right away. sometimes, using your beauty will give freebies but will never get you anywhere in the long run. it like entering a race with a circle track without a finish line.

I dont think so that beauty is the only one that makes the difference..... it is the talent that is taken into account..

I can vouch that this is not the case. I actually witnessed 2 people go for a different position, the more qualified one was not exactly "attractive" but she was smart and knew her stuff. The "attractive" one was always lost but so cute and cuddly. The attractive one got the job and the boss that gave it to her ended up doing 90% of her work because she was such ditz but she looked great behind the desk! It happens a lot.

I'm positive that beauty makes a difference in getting a job in my area, as many actors and actresses live in my city. I watched this blonde very thin and pretty actress bend over just a little in a low cut top and she was hired instead of my friend, who was better qualified, but my friend won't wear a low cut top to get a job.

i think coz many think that beautiful face reflects bautiful heart. though it may not be true. coz sometimes you find a beautiful person with bad attitude. maybe its a nature that people like beautiful things/persons. even you may pick beautiful/handsome person to be your spouse. though the ideal thing is people judge by their ability/skill/inner beauty but the world doesnt go that way

Yep that is so true !!! i have met mant beautiful people who are just mean and selfish. Why do we all tend to think pretty people are nice? That is just like sterotyping people because of their skin color or what they do for a living ect. But what is sad we all do it.

I don't know about "beautiful," but I've seen studies showing that attractive people tend to get promoted at jobs more than unattractive people. Supposedly thin or average weight people have a similar advantage over heavy people.

i think it should be a case of being jugded on your ability and not your looks everyone has the same inside so why should it matter. all of us have the smae dimensions on our faces its just some are displayed diffrently to others i would never be mean to someone just because of the way they look

Absolutely. There are tons of studies that show that people react more positively to people who are attractive. It's not fair, but that's how the monkey-brain works. It also helps to be tall.

I think heighth makes more of a difference in males then females. Shorter females can often be considered "cute". I know that all of my boyfriends have been over 6 ft. and they all commented they loved how 'tiny' I was, meaning height. Something about a much taller man liking a small, short woman. In women I think tall and shapely, model like, helps though.

I thinks there is and it is clearly demonstrated by everyone. But I don't think that it's always the case, when you get to know the person better beauty becomes another one of their characteristics. And in time beauty just fades away.

External beauty is short term advantage just for the first look but internal beauty is advantageous in long run as well as short run. You cannot be beautiful externally if you arent internally

I agree with the fact that beautiful woman has extra advantage in comparison to any man(whether he is the most handsome). Beautiful woman are given first priorities than any handsome man. This actually happens at most places if not 100 percent. Employers have something bad going in their minds that forces them to give jobs to a good looking lady while leaving out a deserving candidate.

The judgement of beauty is different from cognitive or moral judgement because it is effected subjectively, that is, exclusively in reference to the person making the judgement. The idea of beauty lies in the beholder's eye so someone that appears beautiful to you might be ugly to someone else.. But at the end of it all some are just too beautiful and i think that those have advantages in getting the men they desire.

yes i think beautiful people get advantage at first. then as usual everything depends on the nature of the person and how he treats others. but first impression depends on your personality no matter how good you are from inside. being beautiful has its own benefits. beautiful people thinks they are confident and this thinking keeps them going. everything depends on own's thinking. beauty has its own benefit but being smart and presentable is equally important. so beautiful or ugly, either can be impressive if they conduct them properly. All women are beautiful in different ways.

Yes, this has been put to the test many times with the results that you describe. Sad, isn't it. Although there have been women of true beauty who claim women treat them badly, probably due to jealously.

but remember that beauty also varies in the eye of the one who sees it. what may beautiful from you may not be beautiful for others and vice versa..

Very true. There was a woman I worked with that many carried on about how gorgeous she was. Personally I thought she was pretty homely. Her face was definitely nothing to look at, she was real tall and super thin but no real 'body'. She literally moved up 2 positions within a matter of months. I'm certain it wasn't based on her talents in the position because she was constantly calling everyone else up for help because she was lost. Eventually everyone quit helping her and she had to fend for herself. I'm not sure if she's still there or not since I've left but I know if she is, then they got her someone to do her work while she met clients to look all model like! lol She even came across as stupid when she spoke! I'm not sure I'd want someone like that taking care of my millions of dollars!

Interesting topic. If beautiful people have the advantage than I am way out of luck. lol. Im not sure how to answer it so i will just give you my opinion. I have never read anything about this, but I would say YES i believe that beautiful people have an advantage and this is why. Typical Hormones. lol. If you have a male boss he is going to want to see a beautiful woman all day instead of a not so pretty women and if you have a femaile boss they would rather see an attractive male all day instead of a not so attractive male. Just my opinion. Good Topic.

Thanks. And thanks for the great attitude about it... we all should just laugh about it because we are who we are! I'd say for the most part we're all pretty 'average' and just don't realize it. There are always going to be some well above average and some well below. In the end, God will see no face just a heart and soul and where it's been.
