Well the first grand slam is going to begin, who do you will win. roger federer is hot favourite to win men's title but it is even so in women's section. I believe Maria sharapova has good chance

I think that this will be a close Australian Open. The top women seeds have won through and are scheduled to play each other now. Four of the top women seeds won yesterday (Brisbane time) in around an hour. Kim Clijsters beat Alona Bondarenko 6-3, 6-3 Martina Hingis beat Aiko Nakamura 6-2, 6-1 Amelie Mauresmo beat Eva Birnerova 6-3, 6-1 Maia Sharapova beat Tathiana Garbin 6-3, 6-1 I think the winner will be out of this group and pick is Clijsters - she will be too strong for Hingis. Patty Schnyder made hard work of beating Alicia Molik and I don't think she will survive the semi's if she makes it. My pick for an outsider is Jelena Jankovic (seeded 11).

Well, Jelena Jankovic and Mauresmo are out of the Open. Sharapova is looking good. Some people are saying that Sarina Williams will win through to the final. I think she can - just on will power alone. However, I think her match the other day took a lot out of her and I don't think she has the conditon to win the final - she certainly has the game/skill! Clijsters is still my pick - she is playing very well, is highly focused and motivated and is fit. I think Sharapova is more vulnerable mentally than Clijsters - an d tennic is very much a mental game at this level. Anyway, we are in for some superb tennis if the past few days are any indication.

In men i think strongly believe that federer has a very good chance. In women Sharapova is looking in good form but don't forget henin-herdenne she is good player too. Also Amelie Moresmo is in good form right now.

I think that Amelie Mauresmo will win again. She is in top form. I saw her play the talented Olga Poutchikova (Rus). Olga had more powerful ground strokes but was a bit inconsistent. Mauresmo was ruthless in her attack and constructed her points very well. She is very strategic. To top it off she was getting 91% of her first serves in! My only concern with her is that she is peaking too soon. However, she is incredibly fit and is moving very well - she obviously knows what it takes to win an Australia Open. APparently she has been preparing in hot climates for the event - the temperature was over 40 degrees on court the other day. Mauresmo said on interview that she has varied her training by doing some cross-country skiing, so she is fresh as well. I want one of the Aussies to win - Stosur or Molik -but I do not think they are up to the top level yet, despite improving tremendously recently. If they can't win then I would like Clijsters to win - she is very popular here in Australia. Well must rush off to see Clijsters play Akiko Morigami (Japan) - this looks a bit of a mismatch to me.

Clijsters is looking good. She demolished Akiko Morigami 6-3, 6-0. She had a bit of trouble early in the first set because Akiko would not give her any pace - Kim likes the ball coming through really fast so she can counter-punch. When the ball is slower she has to generate her own pace and tends to make more errors. I think Clijsters is also looking relaxed and enjoying her last year of tennis - I suppose it is not hard to do when you can retire at 23 and have $20Million in winnings behind you! Serena Williams just beat Nadia Petrova to come from one set behind but she looks very unfit. Nadia self-destructed in the last set. I don't think Serena has much chance of advancing any further given the fitness and skills of the other players. The top players are also matching her power. Youhave to give Serena credit though on her comeback trail. She looked down and out, had a heavy fall and was breathing heavily in the second set but she dug in and won the day. We could see a Mauresmo vs Clijsters final. I was impressed with Jelena Kostanic Tosic's win over Sam Stosur (Aust.). The Russian showed incredibly will power and unbelievable power on her ground strokes. I think this Jelena is a chance to at least make the semi's. Of course Sharapova is looking very good also. Although I ownder if she has to deal with a nohter really hot day, how she will go. She reported that she was experiencing delusions the other day in the heat. As usual the Australian open is a matter of survival as well as skill.
