How many children do you want to have?

My husband and I both really would like a large family. We want 6 children in total. I honestly get the rudest comments and looks when I tell people this. Whats wrong with having a large family if you can provide for them?? I think its a very personal and individual choice and I think that you know what is best for you. Anyway I was just kind of curious if there are other people that want large families or even if you don't how many children do you want?

I guess it's not WRONG for people to have large families if they can provide for them, but the world is pretty overpopulated as it is. Now, I'm not trying to start a debate or a lecture or anything, just saying that it is... As for me, I don't want ANY kids. EVER! That's my decision and I'm sticking to it! Not gonna change my mind. :P

You have your right to feel the way you do, and I am NOT criticising you. I do wonder, though, why you feel this way. I have five wonderful sons who have grown into five fantastic men. They were an absolute delight and brought so much joy - and still do. I just can't help hoping that somewhere along the line, you change your mind and find the most joyful experience in life. I wish you well.

Many, many studies have been done on this, you may want to search it perhaps through peer reviewed articles (more reliable and it is were I get my info) You can fit every one in the world in the state of TX with room for a 1800sf house each and a very sml back yard. Do you realy think that we are that overpop?

I have had 5 Children.. but I only have 4 with me. I say more power to ya! if ya want to have more Children.. Dont let others discourage you into making your deciosion.. why they do that is because having Children is a HUGE responsibility and they're usually afraid that they will no longer have a Life once Children are there and they lose their independance and all that rubbish!

I don't think there is any probelm with having a large family as long as you take proper measures to compensate for the environemental impact of increasing the population at a greater rate. For examp.e, it takes 500years for a disposable nappy to decompose, so its critical to ensure that you buy responsibly and recycle as much as possible, maybe choosing a nappy washing service rather than putting disposables into landfill. I would also want to plat a lot of trees to offset the number of books and pencils they will get through at school, and probably try to grow some of our own food to reduce the impact all those extra people will have of food air miles. In itself, the family is a personal choice, and its up to the individual, but our impact on the planet affects everyone so I think its a good plan to work out your strategy on this before you have the kids. Best of luck with your big family!

happymommy6 you should have as many children as you like. I believe that is your business with your husband. It really does not matter what other people think. I am very happy you have such a great husband. You are so lucky and loved. I wish I still had such a chance as you do, but I think by now it would be a miracle in my life. Live your life as you wish now, for today will be gone tomorrow. I know too well.

I'm done having my children, and my husband and I felt the same, we wanted a large family. We have five children, by the way. And I can sympathize, because we get some of the rudest remarks. "Are they all yours?" (No genius, I grabbed a couple from the playground, they were too cute to pass up) "How do you manage to find the time for all of them?" (By not sticking my nose into everyone elses business I find I have a ton of extra time!) "Don't you think in this day and age that's a little irresponsible?" (Don't you think that proper etiquette demands you keep those types of questions to yourself?) "But how can you possibly afford them?" (Are you paying for them? No. So how is it your concern?) And these aren't from close friends or family, these are perfect strangers that will ask these types, and worse. Apparently manners went out with the dark ages. I chose to have a large family because I had the time, the finances, and it was what I wanted. I love kids. I was raised in a family with 4 kids, and any less than that would seem like an empty household to me. That's my choice, and obviously yours too. It's noone elses concern how we choose to live our lives and how many children we choose to bring into it, providing it's the right decision for us. I wish you luck ... and advise you to stock up on tylenol. A big family is a lot of fun, but don't think for a second it doesn't often bring one heck of a migraine lol.

LMAO!!! This is great! Actually I have 4 children already and I have experienced many of these same questions. Its really annoying and yes they are always from perfect strangers. I love your little "comebacks" had me laughing out loud....I think I'm going to have to use them next time I get a rude question. LOL! Thanks!

i for one would want to have a big family... i'm thinking of having like 4 or 5 kids... my husband's content with having just 2 but won't mind if we'd have more... but with the way things are now... everything is sky high (prices, etc.) it makes me think twice... good if the parents would be able to provide... it'd be sad if the kids will suffer later... weigh things out and see how many kids you can raise and try to stick with it... everybody will be happy in the long run

I believe that there is nothing wrong with a large family as long as you can support it. The thing I cant stand is when people keep having kid after kid and they arent financially able to support them because it makes their kids suffer.

i only want to have two kids just so that the first one wont want everything just because he is the only child. Only problem is that my bf only wants one. I am trying to convince him that having two will be better that way when we are both busy our son will have someone to play with.

I have a toddler and is expecting again. We have a lovable daschund which I consider one of my children too but my husband wanted to have a 3rd baby probably much later. I just told him, I have to give birth to the second first and after that, it is just wait and see. If we think we will be able to provide for them then large family is always nice because me and my husband are both only child.

I have been blessed with 2 beautiful daughters myself. My ex-husband comes from a family of 13 (yikes!) and they were all short changed in one way or another with all those kids, so he insisted we only have 2. I had 2 difficult childbirths, and the doc said my limit was only one more, so we stopped at 2. I've never regretted that decision, as I do feel truly blessed!! It sounds like you and your husband are very much in love and in love with the idea of having 6, and I say that's no one's business but your own. I myself could never handle 6, 2 kids is definately my limit!! Parenting is the hardest job in the world with the most rewards!! :-)

I had one child, but I know someone had 3 in 3 years, took a year off then did 3 more in the next 3 years. they are very happy with their crew. The oldest is now 8. they are looking at adding in the next year or 2. But have a neighbor who is furious about this, she too had 1 child and our school system is over capacity, in spite of doubling the size of the high school and adding 2 more middle schools and 1 elementary school in 6 years. Our school taxes go up every year way into double digits. My property taxes are now almost as much as my mortgage. She looks at this family and says and this is why the school taxes go up and I can't wait until they go to college so we can pay for their kids to go to college because they can't afford it. I personally, am planning on moving somewhere cheaper but she is tied to the area. This is a valid concern for people on a fixed income. And my school taxes have always gone up more then any raise I have ever received from work. Are you saving for your kids college education?

i have three kids, and the same with you, i also wish i could have 6 kids. i've always wanted to have a big family especially because i'm an only child. Being an only child is nice if you're still a kid -- all the attention of your parents are on you --- but it was when i got older that i realized how lucky are those people with lots of siblings. so, i always tell my kids whenever they quarrel, that they are so blessed to have each other.
