Have you ever used firewood for cooking food?

I know that when people roast a large amount of meat they throw hickory chips on the fire to improve the flavor of the meat sometimes. We usually just roast marshmallows, hot dogs or bratwurst over a campfire. I would not use wood to cook on a normal basis because you are right about the environment. The wood we use would go into a landfill if it did not get burned in a campfire. Sometimes we also burn a tree someone has removed from their yard because it was in danger of falling.

I did when I was stranded in my house alone during an ice storm. I live in the middle of the woods. Fortunately I do have a fireplace. I was without electricity for a week and could not get out to get help for a couple of days as the trees were snapping and breaking all around me. Luckily I had some hickory wood so I put that in the fireplace and started cooking all of the meat that was starting to thaw in the freezer. The wood served both for a little bit of warmth and as a way to cook my food.

It was a great experience and terrifying at the same time. I wasn't sure for a while that there was another soul left living in the world. LOL. I had no phone or electricity and I live alone. It's amazing how quiet the world is when there are no phone, no electricity, and motor vehicles can't operate. It's wonderful and scarey all at the same time!
