Researchers really do not know. They have been looking at many possible causes of this skin disease for a long time. And then ofcourse there are tons of products out on the market trying to convince you that they know what causes it and their product will clear it up. I'm not even sure what research is going on lately in this area but I have a feeling that in the next few years we're going to find out that a LOT of health isuues are caused by bacteria. What do you think? If you don't know what rosacea is go to rosacea.org

I think my rosacea is worse because of sun damage and not covering up when it's windy and cold. I've always had ruddy skin and had acne in my teens, but when I was in my fifties, I developed full blown rosacea. It started the day after I went outside in a howling gale and below-zero temperatures to supervise some workmen who were fixing our generator. When I came in, my right cheek, which was facing the wind, was actually purple and I couldn't feel that part of my face. I may have gotten frostbite, but I was foolish and didn't do anything but put some aloe on it. The next day, my face was covered with bumps and I've had papules and pustules and very red, blotchy skin off and on ever since. And my right cheek is always worse than the rest of my face. One thing that has helped me is joining rosacea-support@yahoogroups.com. I've gotten a lot of good information there. I agree with you about the bacteria connection and I many people think that demodex mites are involved.

I think it is part genetic and part environmental. I just went through a month long battle with steroid induced rosacea, luckily it is curable and I used elidel on my face and on my second antibiotic, although they make you feel sick and unsteady and also tired. Has anyone used laser therapy for their rosacea? What type of supplements have you explored? I cannot be near the heat of the kitchen or in the bathroom when my son is taking a bath as I can feel my face on fire and a flareup emerging. The same with the hot sun on my face when driving. I sleep with fans all over the house and A/C in bedroom. I have eczema on hands and legs and face and some rosacea, so hard to know where I can put the cortaid cream on. I also dont like the nasty pill known as prednisone as it causes weight gain and has some serious side effects. I hope they learn more about eczema and rosacea in the next few years. I have to worry about alzheimers as it is in the family and both my kids are autistic. I hate having eczema and rosacea. It keeps you inside due to embarassment of the rashes on face and body.

Interesting that you mention all those different health issues. I wonder if someday researchers will identify them all as auto-immune disorders???

I agrre with you.. actually the cause for skin diseases are always been intriguing and cosmetic and medical brands often comes out with some kind of experiments... Some medicines or products are effective for someone but does no good to someone else... Nowadays, with incresing no. of diseases of different kinds, less importance has been given by the researchers to skin diseases such as Rosacea or Egzima etc. but yes the time is now ripe to get more into research on such problems
