Would you smoke just to keep your weight down?

I've heard that some young teenage girls start smoking in order to control their weight. I think it's absolutely crazy because you are doing so much internal damage to yourself and once you're older your skin will pay for it. So that makes me wonder, if you were overweight and someone said that smoking would forever keep you slim, would you be take it up??

Most of the people are becoming more and more lazy.People don't want to exercize when they can smoke and keep their weight down. That is very stupid, and they will see that when they get older

It's a pity that people can't open their eyes and see it now.

No. I would never do that. Smoking is so very unhealthey for the body. Even If it made it possible for me to lose weight extra fast I would not even attempt to do that. Anybody that does is crazy. They are harning themselves more than actually heloing to make their body better.

As dumb as it sounds, that was the reason I started smoking, thinking I would never get addicted. It didn't work. I still got fat. Now I'm trying to quit. Starting smoking is one of the worst decision I ever made.

I think the real reason smoking makes them lose weight is because of the simple reason that it probably makes you loose your hunger. So you won't eat... Smoking is horribly bad. Just the other day i saw a bunch of teens in a corner smoking... I was very surprised because im still wondering how they obtained them.

By the way, smoking can increase the weight and not decrease it. It can also alter the female hormones in the body and increase the cholesterol level. And after the age of 40, they might get heart diseases.

That's interesting, so it may mean weight loss or low weight maintenance for some, and wieght gain for others...but either way, you're still poisoning yourself.

This is not the right way to keep ypurself slim.Smoking is very bad for health. They should take some other way to keep themselves slim.If this is the one and only way to become slim then I shall rather prefer to be a fat person.

Man... I really agree with you. I surely will not smoke even if it is to reduce weight or whatever...It's such a dangerous thing...Its really a poison. How can you even think of inhaling such packets when they are injurious ...I find here an opportunity to advice all smokers to please quit smoking as it is injurious to your health as well as the persons staying near by you. Thank you.

Yes, many teenage girls tell me that the reason they started smoking (and continue to smoke) is to keep their weight down. For myself, this is not the method I would choose to lose weight. I really don't think it does much good to be skinny and have a great figure....if the only place to show off my new-found figure is in a COFFIN!!!! Just my opinion, please don't spam me folks!

Hi Emisle, I think its best to confirm scientific data before going by things that are generally believed by peers. Health is very important. We each have one body and when we destroy it with nicotin, there's no shop for replacement parts. Smoking kills

There is a nurse who posted in a previous page who said that a lot of girls take up smoking because it will supress their appetite, and I'm not saying that you will lose weight when you start smoking, i'm just saying that if it would help you lose weight, would people take it up?

I dont believe in smoking will keep anyone slim and I would definitely wont smoke. Smoking is bad for health. It will affect our image and body. In addition, it is expensive too. I hope young teenage girls wont follow this path just to keep their body slim. I am sure there are other healthy ways to maintain our body weight.

Hmmm, what does smoking have to do with body weight?? Maybe if get lung cancer because of cancer, then you would become really really sick. That way you would put down more weight faster. Oh and i forgot, put your life down faster too.

No way! in my opinion that will just be similar to bulemia or anorexia, which are two of the most common eating disorders teenagers fall prey to in their effort to keep their weight down. Thus, smoking(which is a hazard to health)for the same purpose would fall in the category of disorders!

Never! It makes me think of people doing the same thing with Speed because you just go and go and go and don't need to eat. But it smells and stains your teeth and skin and then there's all the internal problems it causes! I'd rather be overweight or lose weight in a healthy way.

But some people have said it helps maintain it. 110 lbs is already a very low weight so it would be incredibly hard to lose any more as your body would slow your metabolism down. In heavier people it would stay the same until their body decided they shouldn't lose any more fat.

I think its not a Good Idea to smoke for Weight Reduction. There are other much better ways to do so.Like Exercise,Diet with proper medical advice. Smoking will definately harm your body at a later stage. As smoking decreases your appetite, you tend to eat less and your weight may get reduced however this is not applicable for everybody as it also depends on your tendency to eat which means your calorie intake. Some People Just find out the reasons to smoke and especially Teenagers find it very attractive.
