ok I am thinking of buying a cockatoo sometime in the future. I would like to know is it best to hunt down a breeder or is it best to go into a pet shop? Also is there a difference between the different breeds Apart from the colour?

Hello there. may i suggest adopting a cockatoo? there hundreds of them in shelters every where just waiting for homes. i have rescued several and they are so sweet and appreciate having a good home. there are many types of cockatoos.they vary in color, size and personality. as a mom to four different types, i would say that the umbrella cockatoo(all white with yellow under wings and tail and very large) are the most affectionate. they do talk but don't usually have large vocabularies. my bare-eyed cockatoo has a large vocabulary and speaks very clearly.they are smaller with a small crest which is orangish in color. if you have any specific questions please feel free to ask me. i have an extensive knowledge and experience with these birds. good luck!

I really really suggest that you buy a book specifically about Cockatoo's. yes they are beautiful birds, very affectionate and can be great talkers. their high intelligence combined with lack of proper stimulation can result in behaivor problems..even physically damaging themselves. they are NOT a beginner parrot. to give the potential new bird and YOU the best chance at being happy with each other...LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN ABOUT THEM FIRST!

dear Nugget, I am selling my cockatoo. She is all white with a yellow head. Peanut is very friendly and loves kisses. I cannot take her overseas. She will keep you company. The cage whcich is old and her perch go with her. I am asking 1100 dollars. Which is a good price. My number is 1-985-285-2779. I hate to think of her sitting in a pet shop. Laurie Coley
