In my case it probably wouldn't work, I can imagine myself fighting with the hoola hoop for 15 minutes befor e I could manage to hula for 15 seconds. That's me being optimistic. I would think any form of phyiscal activity is beneficial say vs sitting on your butt responding to mylot discussions. Yo go girl! Good luck

I would definately say that it would cause weight loss also skipping as they are a high aerobic exercise and burn calories quick. I stick to walking and going to the gym 3/week to maintain cardiac and muscle fitness.

Hey thats great! I am going to get me some roller skates I hear they are the best thing for the legs and cheaper then a bike. That combined with belly dancing should start getting me alot more healthier then I am and the fun thing about skates you can get your kids envolved and they just love the time they get to spend with you. And a little belly dancing might come in handy for those special night you want to make it special for him a little belly dance strip tease. having him sopping up druel.

Yes, this is true. hard part is keeping the hoola hoop up but I guess bendingto pick it up off the gorund repeatedly would have a benefit also in the weight loss. But might I suggest something maybe easier and more our age then hoola hoops? Belly dancing. It works. They even have a yoga, bellydance tape out that works very well but also just belly dancing for those who aren't into the yoga thing. Well I hope that get to lose the weight in any which way you decide. Good luck.

I've always wanted to try belly dancing, but have been to ashamed to try due to my weight. The more I think of it though, why should I be ashamed!? I shouldn't let what others think stop me from trying to be healthier and doing what I want eh? Ha..I must be getting old not to care about what others think anymore!

I'm not sure about the claim that you would lose up to 2 inches in just a month, but I know that hoola hoops are great exercise if you are one of those people who are coordinated enough to be able to use them! Some exercise classes at gyms have even been using them in their classes and programs to add variety and fun. The important thing with exercise is to find a routine which you enjoy doing and that you will stick with consistently. I imagine that using a hoola hoop every single day for 15 minutes might get boring. You may want to consider alternating it with using a treadmill, walking outside, and exercise bike, or a step-aerobics video to keep it interesting.

Watch TV or listen to upbeat music while you hoola - that will keep you from being bored.

I would think that hoola hooping would be great exercises yes. I'm not so sure about the 2 inches you will have to let me know about that one. When I'm trying to lose a few pounds I like to walk myself, I don't do alot of this much anymore tho due to health problems. I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss. :)

I always had a hoola hoop when I was younger. I can see how it would work. you could even do the motion you do with a hoola hoop and probably decrease your waist line.

It would work like any other exercise, I don't believe in "miracle exercise" it just consumes energy like cycling, treadmill, etc so just choose the exercise you are most comfortable with and can perform properly.

I guess it helps because it's a form of exercise, too. You burn calories on your waist because the activity is concentrated in that area. Have you tried it? Good luck!

hi chiyosan. i have heard the doing hula hoops is very good for you and can indeed make your waistline smaller in a short space of time. i am pretty sure that the singer beyonce uses this as a keep fit routine. it's got to have some benefit in the long run if you ever watch people doing it. the only problem is is keeping the damn thing going!

hoola hoops - hoola hoops image
I am 32 years old and walk most days. But I have been thinking of using the hula hoop - due to the fact that you are working the area where all us women seem to accumulate our fat - in the love handle and abdomen area. The hula hoop is low impact and works the thighs, waist and hips. You will also work your arms and they will be moving to keep your balance and keep the hoop moving. Remember as a kid we could drop the hoop down to our knees and keep it going by moving our knees back and forth so - that would work your knees. I think it is a great exercise and with no impact. The only thing you would have to worry about is if you have a bad back - you would have to start out slowly. Go For It!! I think I'm going to go get one - thanks for the question - you made me decide.

Most of the time when I was hoola hooping was spent picking it up from the floor. I guess I will have to try a little harder. I wonder if much of the weight loss is the reaching down and picking it up again. It has been a long time since I have hoola hooping, maybe I start doing it again.

It must be a good exercise. I use to do it for fun when I was younger. And thinking about it, it may be very true that doing hoola hoops for about 15 minutes daily, you can lose up to 2 inches. I don't have hoola hoops to try it but they must be very easy to find/make.

Yes exercise classes use hoops quite a lot in aerobics nowadays to make it more interesting. You can do hula with your waist and hips and also use the hoop to do leg and arm exercises
