I want to quit smoking but I seriously don't want to gain weight in the process. What has been your experience with this? What can I do to keep from putting on the pounds when I quit?

Gum. Lots and lots of gum. I've never quit smoking myself, but all of my friends who have swear by it. When they get bored and get that craving for *something*, instead of snacking they went for gum. They always had a pack on them, at all times. Best of luck to you with the quitting!

I personally have not tried to quit smoking but from what I have heard from people that have is you want to find something healthy to be putting in your mouth. Some people even try sucking on candies, chewing gum, chewing on toothpicks. I think that if you really want to quit and you are this concerned about gaining weight you will probably do fine. I am sure that you will be paying attention to what you eat more than you do now. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Well I've heard that when you quit, have a plan, another "habit" to pick up like crafts or hey, MYLOT! lol. But seriously, to avoid putting on the pounds, one main thing to do is stock up on healthy snacks...carrot sticks, celery, apples etc. Also, drink a bit of freezing cold water when you get a craving..seems to work for most people. :)

Your best bet is to start an exercise program to counter the inevitable weight gain due to quiting. You gain weight because smoking speeds up your metabolism and needless to say it slows back down when you quit. But running and exercise will pick up your metabolism therfore countering the weight gain. you might even lose pounds during the process.

I quit just in November last year so I am just still fresh. i havenĀ“t gained one pound so far. Maybe because I think about what i eat COZ i AM more hungry than i was before. I try to eat fruits and chew gums all the time. Also I brush my teeth alot coz then I do not want to eat =)
