Isn't there a way to control the trashy, irritating commercials on TV?

Many a time, I have lost interest in a particularly good TV film, or episode, simply because of the same pre-recorded 'commercials' thrown at me! I know it is one of the 'necessary evils' we have to bear with in this era of speed and consumerism, but I can't think of a way to stop this malarkey except by switching off the TV!

It does depend on your country. England I believe have a system in place to monitor commercials and their content. Either complain to the governing body or the TV station itself. Your actions also count, during the last world cup game in England two rival channels showed the same game, one had over-load of adverts before the game starts, during the national anthems and at half time, and the other didn’t. The one without adverts had 20 million or so viewers and the one with adverts had a measly 3 million. Hopefully in light of this they’ll be able to change their approach and provide us with less adverts!

You should also write to the companies that pay the commercials, complaining about their poor quelity.

No way they will take notice, unless there is an entire 'civil liberation movement'! Perhaps we have to simply grin (or howl) and bear it.

I doubt they'd take notice unless they had -alot- of compliants.

What we can do in that. Just switch to another channel. Before I answer this question, I like to think about, why this thread was created ? And what was the real motive for this question? When I find nothing wrong, immediately I prefer to answer. However I like questions on science and politics but don't ignore other members requests. I'm thankful to mylot for giving such opportunity to share our views with international members.

You have right to oppose, but you cannot eliminate. In a democratic set up, everyone has equal right. What is wrong to you, may be right to somebody else. Buy CD/DVD, enjoy the movie without COMMERCIALS. You are at liberty to do so.

YOU KNOW WHT I THINK IT IS REALLY DIFFFCULT TO GET RID OF THE COMMERCIALS , COZ AS U SED THE ACTUALLY ARE NECESSARY .THOSE COMPANIES PAY ,SEE THTS WHY THEY HAVE TO BE SHOWN . IF THEY ARE SHOWN BEFORE OR AFTER THE SHOW ALL AT A TIME , THEY KNOW THT NO ONE WILL SEE THEM . HENCE THEY HAVE TO BE SHOWN IN BETWEEN PARTS OF THE SHOW
