China has more men than women.

Years ago, we heard that China was forcing their population into just having one child per family because of overpopulation problems. That was causing many to abort the girl children because they felt men were more important in their culture. I thought then that they were going to have trouble on down the line because if everyone wanted to have male children, who would they marry in the future? It seems as if I was right. Now China is going to have a problem...who are the men going to marry? Seems like it was a really strict law they enforced with no insight into the possible future problems it would cause! http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2007-01-12-china-gender_x.htm

That's actually pretty scary. But you are right, at some point the plan had to back fire. Hopefully this will even out over time.

Thanks for bringing this matter to attention. one child policy has been encouraged in urban areas with certain regulations here in China. but in rural areas, and to all the minorities here, all couples may have more than one children. the family planning policy is not perfect at all, but also not the only one to be blamed. now we have about 1.3 billion population, also with about 0.2 billion of old ppl over 60! so its a very very difficult situation to handle with. china is not that rich yet, so in the rural areas, men are more powerful than women, and practically they are more needed. seems we are going to have 10-20 millions surplus men of the marriage ages.

It would appear that your prediction was correct. How tragic for the people of China. Early in the history of Canada we had the same issues of a much higher male population than female. This was resolved by Canadian men taking American brides and immigration. I wonder how China will handle this?

China is facing a dilemma, we can't judge their methods from the outside, the over growth of population and the economical factors are making China go to extremes or the people will face starvation, it seems very inhuman to limit families to only one child and it caused many people to prefer that this one child to be a male, besides the declining female population they face a problem of generations of lonely children and generations with no uncles, aunts or cosines.. it's going to be a very strange society and it for sure will effect the psychology of all the population in the future.
