Changing Careers

I hate my job and it's effecting every aspect of my life. I live in Michigan so there aren't many other jobs out there. I can't afford to relocate. I've started a photoblog as a creative outlet for my photography and hope to make some money with that eventually. My question is: if some guy can turn "one red paperclip" into a house, why can't I turn my blog/photography into a source of income? How do I make the changes that I need to make in order to find happiness? Any suggestions?

You can turn it into a source of income!!! It may not be a very large income and may take a while, but hey- every little bit helps. For making money from blogging I would check out this article at http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/105758/learn_the_secrets_to_making_legit_money.html. A big part of this though is just to keep taking pictures and keep blogging and promote the hell out of that photo blog! I'd actually really love to see it, if you don't mind. I'm an Art History major and photography is a huge passion of mine. Send me a link?

i think the best way is to work online. You can find many since you said there not not many jobs in your place. Then try working online since you are from USA, u have lots of opportunities unlike us.

Don't believe the hype, US is not the ultimate, you can be successful anywhere you are. The richest man in the world is not from America. There are lots of rich people even in the so called third world countries as well. You do have opportunity just do your best whereever you are. Yes, some place have more opportunities than the other, just to let you know, there are homeless people in America, poor people in America like any other countries

I think this happens to me also most of the time and I suppose to engage in the things which I like to prefer mostly and not concentrate on only one thing of my interest, and try to gain any of the selling aspects of my interest and I got much more than i thought of it by just thinking for a while in leisure. It really helped me a lot.

Man, I'm with you all the way. O.K. for me I've been around food all my life. Fast Food, I've been suckered into going into the Army as a cook, I'm out of the Army, I work 2 fast food jobs at the same time once again. I guess subconsciously I keep ending up with fast food because it's a job that's always available. Just because it's too much hassle to find something that's different. Plus, when the next month's rent is coming around the corner you have to find something fast. Now, for the first time in my life I'm doing things my way. I had to double up on my rent for security. However, right now, I'm depressed. I hope I don't get thrown out my apartment. I haven't been going to work because I'm kind of sick of life. I'm relying on my income tax to pay my next month's rent instead of going to work, plus I'm going to school in a couple of month's. School money from the Army will help me out a lot. I've worked hard all my life...I just want a break from everything! I hardly get sleep and I can't really learn what I'm wanting to do now because of me falling asleep from the 2 jobs that I work and hate at the same time.

I feel for ya... I'm former military myself. Its a damn shame that there aren't better jobs out there for military people to transition to. I hope you find something you enjoy, too :-)

Such tales are few and far between. I'm really sorry you hate your job. Been there, done that. Try to think more positively about it. By all means keep up with your photography but also turn your mind to other things as well, learn to relax, join some group or start one. Do you have a wife and family? Why can't you afford to relocate. Apply your mind to all of these things plus more, make sure you enjoy your leisure time. Hasten slowly with new ventures. Don't let it fully absorb you. Focus strongly on reviewing your attitude to your job. Look for the positive, step over the negative. You have my full sympathy. Do you have anyone to talk to about these things, regularly, and I'm not talking about pub mates, although some of those may be OK. Good luck and God speed.

Set up a group of contacts throughout the internet. Get contacts through forums including mylot, other social sites, myspace groups, e.t.c. Get them to hire you out to talk about their site for a nominal fee($5 but can be changed). I understand being in Michigan that our life in this state sucks. Good luck.

I think that if you're looking for a way to do something, make one move in that direction, keep focusing on the positive aspects of that, and the way will be shown to you. You will get what you think about. Don't be afraid.

I'm happy to hear that you are trying to change your career because you are not happy with the one you have right now. The best way to start is to look online. The internet has so much valuable information on it, there has to be something that can help you out with your photographs.

if you feel the need to change acreers, then go. You cant stay they if you arent happy. that will be torture. If this is your only way of income as of now, then just concentrate on posting and helping all these people here who need your help. Its a good way to earn coz you're also helping alot of people.

I suggest you try and go for a small business loan this way you won't be strapped for money at the same time while you are trying to get your business venture off the ground.

i'm no expert but did like your work with most of the pictures i saw on your blog site.you know there's an ice storm on the way hope you know where there's a nice looking tree on its own they can look nice after a storm. interesting photo's of the water tank and the old creamer i liked was wondering why it had so many steeples on it is the only way i can describe them things on the roof. should try and find someone writting histories of oldhistoric buildings around towns, cities, and or villages maybe snap the photos for him/her. keep the job till your able to make a living at photography maybe try your hand at passport pictures there will be a big demand for them soon with the new border rules coming into affect...lol

I am impressed with your persistence. Nothing is impossible. Where there is a will, there will be away. Turning your photography into an income is creativity. Your blog will be a good marketplace. Success will come when we learn never to give up. My advice is that you work out a plan. Plan your work and work your plan. Remember, the person who fails to plan, plan to fail.

that is life. nothing is free in this world. if you want to be happy, you have to pay for it. you must work so hard to get it. if you want so much money, you can make some cars and house then you can sell them. easy right, but you have to work hard.
