Well, before I had children, I would have been content to be ignorant of any noise in my house, and throw the covers over my head. But now that I have kids, I feel it's my responsiblity to know what I'm dealing with, so I usually check it out. My son is quite loud when he sleeps, he kicks the wall in his sleep all of the time, and it always wakes me up, also when the heater turns on, it sounds like someone is openeing the front door, so when we first moved here, I swear I was up all night long, checking on the kids. Oh, the other day, I heard this loud Moaning sound at my front door, it was HORRIBLE, I thought for sure it was some crazy person coming to kill us all (I know I have a vivid imagination), so my hubby checked out the sound while I checked on the kids, It was a cat in heat, trying to get to our boy cat who was in the garage! (:

I don't tend to stay in bed if I hear somethin' unless I'm pretty sure it's the cat. And I've lived with cats in the house my whole life, so I'd like to think I know what their sounds, sound like lol.
So, generally I'll grab the knife i keep under my pillow, slide it in the loop of my pants or my waistband and check it out.
I think I'll refrain from telling any stories though, more often than not my monsters are real instead of imagined lol. And when there are no monsters it's a wild animal..so..*shrugs* that's me lol.

I get up and investigate every time, because there is no point lying there, because I would never sleep, I'd be laying there worrying and waiting for the next movement, until I find out what the noise was I wouldn't be able to relax, sleep would evade me. Only when I was fully satisfied that it was 'nothing' then I would go back to bed. I've had a few experiences, especially in a new home, I've moved about six times in ten years and I can tell you that getting used to the bumps and noises in a strange how takes some getting used to and many a night I was up and pacing the house trying to figure out what that noise I heard was!

I get up to try and find out what is causing the"bump". The only reason which would stop me from investigating is if I heard voices. Been as I keep my cell phone on my bedsite table I would call the police straight away and then lock myself into the bathroom. If the noise proceeded from thiefs, they won´t be interested in eliminating me, they´ll disappear very quickly in fact, because there´s not much to steal in our flat.

We heard what sounded like someone coming up the stairs one night. My husband opened the bedroom door (first arming himself with his cricket bat) and there was a frog on the landing at the top of the stairs.
It had been hopping up the stairs. It took one look at him, and hopped off in the opposite direction. Then we had to chase it round, finally trapping it in a collander. We then let it go outside. We still don't know how it had got in - must have happened when we left the patio open
