Although it's not all that creative, I would say to send her a gift card or a little of the "universal gift card" (money!!). It's better for you in terms of postage, and since you don't see this child a lot you don't really know what she already has and what she likes and doesn't like. Alternately I would say to think about if there's something neat that you can get for her where you are that is not sold where she is. Good luck either way!

at that age - their interests are so varied! There are Polly Pockets, Barbies, Makeup, dolls, video games, books, clothes, etc... I guess I would either talk to her parents and see what she is inter right now. Maybe is is wanting to update her room and you could help out with that (decorations or gift card to a paint store). Sending money, I feel, is impersonable. But if you find out a place that she will use a gift card so that shecan do something special - that would probably be the way to go.

Ok 8 years old... there are so many things out there. You can get her the littlest pet shop, polly pockets, girlie stuff (makeup), anything disney, art stuff too. Now remember you can order some of it online and get it sent right to her... target, walmart, kohls, toys r us are all very good ones when it comes to shipping in time! Good luck!

Nothing says love to an 8yr old like money. Kids LOVE money. I remember when I was little, I think it's when I turned 9, I was given over $100 all together from different people. I felt like the richest person in the world. It was great. Just send her a $10 bill or a $20 bill. I'm sure she'd be so thrilled that she can now go out and buy something she wants. If just giving money isn't something that you're into, you could always find out about different things she likes and buy her something off the internet. Go to a place like Amazon, or something. Then you can just have it shipped directly to your niece.

you can start her a trust fund that you can deposit money in for b-days and xmas then send her a small teddy bear with a card telling her all about the trust fund you can also send her a figureine that she can place on a shelf and start a collection of her own or snow globes.

I would get her some saving bonds and maybe a few shares of a good longterm stock and then I would get a book about learning to invest while you are stiil very young, there are several out there on the market... A whole lot of the people out there would be much better off, if they had the chance to start out at this age... You gifts now could be a great contribution to her future as well as your own! :) Joy, Abundance and Peace to you and yours!

I think a giftcard to her favorite toy store. her parents can take her and let her pick out what she really likes. I think she would enjoy that. Happy Birthday to your niece.

TerryZ, in reading through the other responses, I see that you're leaning towards a gift card. I don't know if you're like me but I hate sending "just" a gift card when it's for a child. When I had to send a gift to a little girl in my husband's family (she was about the same age as your niece), I went and bought her the cutest little purse. It was not a toy purse (came from an actually handbag place) but it was one of the plastic-y sort that had an image on it.. in this case, an adorable little kitten, which seemed age appropriate. It only cost me around $6 and then I put the gift card inside that, along with a pretty pink lipgloss. Well it went over like gangbusters! Apparently, she felt very grown up, going off to Walmart with her very own purse and her pretty lips hee hee

yeah the gift card is cool, maybe something that an 8 year old would like to do that would include her friends. is there like a malibu grand prix by her..maybe you can prepay for a day of fun for her and her closest 2 friends. that way she can be like 'yeah my aunt from jersey is doing it up for us'..lol. all ideas were pretty good too hhopes she appreciates it whatever you decide.

I think you should get her a gift certificate to a favourite store of hers. It won't cost you much to mail it that way.

well money send her money so she can go shopping and if you don't feel safe about that get her a wal-mart card or a prepaid credit card so she can just go get what she wants you can get on at wal-greens it is called green dot card and you can refill it so if her mom want she can refill that card and keep money on it that is what i did for all my kids and they liked it and then you won't have to get a face that makes you know they didn't like the gift you gave and it just like money only on a card they can spend it anywhere and it fun for them.......
