How often do you clean out and defreg your hard drive?

I try to clean and defrag my harddrive at least once every 9 weeks. I do it each time that I finish another quarter of classes from school. I delete all of the old assignments and the other crap that is left behind from each set of classes then I defrag the whole thing.

The last time I defrag my computer was probably 3 months ago. I still remember in the time when I was still using Windows 98, probably just me, but defragmentation process took too many hours to complete. My harddrive size isn't that big. At that time, I prefer to use Norton Speeddisk because it does the same job faster.

On win 98 it took forever to defrag on win ME it wouldn't defrag at all on on XP it is quick. It just depends on the software you're running and how long since you did it last how long it takes to defrag your system. It is neccessary.

I backup all my assignments from year's passed (you never know when you might need them again). I defrag my hard drive every 6 weeks or so, its better for playing games and for speeding up your computer. These days with the speed of computers, defragging doesn't really give you as much of a performance increase as it used to, when computers were slower.

yeah but the modern computers don't slow up like the old ones used to either.

defragging it daily may not be the best for it as it also compresses your files for you also.

I think it's ideal to defrag your system every 3 months if it's just for home use. this is a long process and can take up so much time.

once in 3 months or more ! but it depends on type of work that i do ! if i am using it simply then it is not required oftenly but if i am using many things like softwares , surfing , development then it is required because it sucks my memory !

I defrag once a week or once a month dependes of what i'm doing on my computer.(the copy paste thing is starting to bugg me,because is one of two messages it tall me that i can't copy paste yep,but i just typed the message :( )

It depends on your usage. I have a heavy usage on my system with my computer running 24/7 downloading something or the other so it's a more frequent cleanup & defrag schedule for me.
