FATE vs. LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT-- which do you believe in the most?

I believe there is destiny in whatever you choose to do or undertake in life. Take for example-- if you choose to marry your partner, then something has been outlined long ago for you of this. Otherwise if you choose singleness then still something has been planned for you to happen. This is ofcourse how I look at life. I really cannot determine which is which. I cannot quite comprehend which one should I believe to co-exist. I'am a Christian that is why I believe that God has planned it all for us, but I also believe that it is in ourselves how we make our lives either for the best or for the worst.
What do you think of this one? I want to hear how you see life--and the determining factors I have been wracking my head about.

Good question my friend
I feel that those with power tend to see the world in terms of them being able to achieve anything at all, whilst those with no power tend to hold a much more fatalistic attitude, seeing everything as being pre determined. This sort of person often places their future in the hands of god and will defer any decisions to this supernatural concept.
I feel in my adult mind that the world is what we, as individuals, make of it, we design our own history. However, the child mind (i was brought up a methodist christian) still thinks in terms of fate and a grand design. Consequently, what happens to me, i see at two levels, the positive is all my own work, the negative is part of a wider plan
