1st baby -- how old were you?

How old were you when your 1st child was born. Did you feel ready emotionally and financially at that age? I was only 22 but I do think that it was okay when we had our 1st because I was ready emotionally. My mom had had a baby when I was 14 and I had gotten the experience of helping to take care of that baby was I knew a lot about babies and young children. Also I had a great job that offered me 4 months of paid maternity leave when my baby was born!

My first baby was born about two months ago, and we thought we were ready, but in retrospect it is a lot more difficult to deal with her than either one of us expected. I think it will get better with time.

Awww... yes it will get easier and easier. I think it takes till the baby is about 4 months old before you really can see some light at the end of the stressful & exhausting tunnel! Hang in there.

I was married at 18 and had twin girls a year later. I was young and I do wish I would've waited HOWEVER I wouldn't give up my kids for the world. I'm now 29 and they are 10 years old so I'm look a cool young mom lol I now have a 2 year old too and he wears me out more than ever lol.I hate when people say they are waiting till they are financially ready. What exactly does that mean? Are you ever financially ready to have kids? If I'd a waited till then I'd never have them.

yeah I agree that waiting till financially ready is silly and pretty much unattainable.

I have mine when i was 23 and now i have 2 boys. i believe that babies are angels sent from heaven to make us happy. though it is a sweet-painful feeling at first. it was all worth it when i see him smile and say's "mama".

I was 20 when I had my first. I thought I was ready as well. With helping my parents basically raise my niece and nephew from birth to age 5, and my nephew had the 3 month colic. When I was left with a newborn, while my husband left for a 3 mnth deployment with the Navy. I learned quick that no matter what you do, a baby doesn't always want what you want. And the best advice my mom gave me was when you tried everything you possibly can to help a baby stop crying. Just walk out of the room and count to ten.

I had my first when I was nearly 22 years. Although financially it was a struggle as I left work for good and we only had one wage coming in, I feel I was emotionally ready. Its great now as my daughter is 17 yrs and I am still young and I need to be. Bringing up a teenager is the hardest part, alot more things to deal with. When they are young it is so much easier. My friend had her first at 40 yrs and she did find it quite difficult as she left work after so many years. I do feel for her, as she will be reaching her late 50's when her son reaches late teens. I don't think I would have the energy!!

I was 20 and wasn't ready in any way! I had no idea what to do and just muddled my way through. It was mostly harrowing and I never had another child. My daughter is now a mother herself - a much wiser girl she had her first at 32 and the next 2 years later. ANd I am having a ball and totally enjoying my second chance to enjoy the babies sooo grateful!

My mother had me when she was fifteen. I often joke to her by saying "I watched you grow up."

i had my 1st baby at 17. I got married at 16 so that was the next step a baby. I think its good to have them when your young to get them out of the way. But have them the right way be married first.

i got married at an early age 22 because of getting pregnant unplanned. i deliver a baby girl last august 12, 2005. there is a advantage and disadvantage of having a baby at an early age. advantage because, you can see them until they got married. disadvantage, because this is the time that your still enjoying as singlehood life.

I was 21, pregnant on my 21st birthday :S Although I don't regret having him at all I'm not sure I was really ready to have a child and certainly didn't plan to have him that young, did make me grow up and get my act together fast though!!!

I was 21 and I was not ready, but I don't think I ever would have been ready. Luckily it's one of those things you can learn and get better at as you go along.

I was 20, almost 21 when I had my child. I feel I was emotionally ready and prepared for him to enter my life. Finacially? We struggled a bit but nothing too serious. He has never gone without, nor have we. In this type of situaiton, alot of times age really is just a number. I see myself as being alot more responsible than some older mothers I know. Scary but true!
