I grew up on a QH ranch (as many as 20 foals a season), so I have seen and given my fair share of odd names. Many registered names are related to the Ranch they are born on, or related to breeding. 'Barn' names are usually taken from registered names, or quirks about the horse. Names I have given, or participated in giving: 'Dun with a Fashion' - she is a dun, born when duns were very popular. Her name was supposed to be 'Dun in Fashion', but AQHA changed it. Barn name is 'Fashion' 'Keystos Pride' breeding and ranch related. Barn name was 'Beaver'. When he was born, he looked like a Beaver surfacing from the water. Slick and shiny. Keystos Kandy Kisses breeding and ranch related. Barn name 'Hershey'. He was a beautiful Bay, the colour of chocolate. 'Fashion and Lace' a foal off 'Fashion'. Barn name Lacey. 'Keystomax' the stud, the Max was breeding related. Barn name was Keysto. 'Colonel McDonald', other stud, breeding related, Barn name was Colonel. We had a brood mare that had lost an eye as a foal. When we bought her, we sure the details of the eye loss, so her name became Mystery. Her first colt was named Inspector, registered as Keystos Inspector. I remember more of their barn names then I do registered names. Lady, PicaStar, Penny, Rock, Skittles, Sassy, Tuff, TiAmo, Hearts, Cole, Prancer, Caramel, Riva, Ruby, Cookie, Sheila (born on St Pats day).

i like the names. very creative. i have so many chosen for when i eventually get horses. they would probaly just be horses for riding, not like breeding or racing or anything. i have like a whole notebook page of names waiting for their owners lol. most of the names have to fit with the personality like i want a horse named Wicked, but i have to wait for one that fits. :)

I don't own a horse, but I bought one for my grandaughter and she christianed him Cadbury. That was because he likes chocolate treats and he is all brown - the same colour as a bar of chocloate.
