As im sitting here watching the season premeire and listening to some ungodly singing i wonder why dont some of these people get unbiased opinions about their singing skills, or tape record themselves and then listen before they go on national tv and embarass themselves. It would save them money on the trip there, a long wait in line..and none the less save them from having their dreams shattered and their feelings hurt. Really i dont understand how some of these people think they sound good..some of them have to be severely tone deaf. why do you think some of the not so good contestants still go and try out when they no they are gonna leave cryin?

I think its sad that people close to them haven't been honest with them about their true lack of talent. Or maybe they just don't believe that they can't sing. I think some of them do it just to be on television, and others hope that maybe they might get lucky for being truly horrible...like that William Hong guy, *Laughs*

I don't know how people don't know just how bad they sound. The family/friends of these people have to be encouraging them. I understand encouraging a young child to sing and telling them that they sing beautifully, but how can you listen to an adult that cannot sing at all and tell them they're the next American Idol? I know a lot of the people come on American Idol just to get their few minutes of fame. On the bright side though, it's great entertainment :)

i don't think being tone deaf or over encouraged has anything to do with. I personally think american idol seeks out people who cant sing to "audition" for rating purposes. face it, if all american idol was is people with decent to good voices trying out for a contest, how many people would really watch it on a consistent basis? the public lives for the drama and humiliation that comes from the american idol judges. give me a break, like the chick who thought she was the cowardly lion from the wizard of oz really thinks she sings well. i highly doubt it. LOL.

I enjoy the first couple weeks too. They are the best. I know it's evil but I love watching these people make a fool of themselves. I think a lot of times parents egg their kids on because parents tend to see past the fact that their little angel can't sing. But you are right, I ask myself when I see some of these people why their friends didn't tell them not to do it. And then others I think are doing it intentionally and putting on a little show of being upset just so they can be on tv. An intern at a local radio station did that last year. They showed her on tv and everything.

They have probably been singing in the shower to music long enough that they dont think they need to get training. Its the cinderella story, they think that without traning or anything, that they have the skills and ability to waltz in and grab it, dreaming.

The problem is that some of these people really think they can sing. It's truly not their fault though. There is sombody out there telling them that they are good. These people need to stop doing that so that they can stop embarising themselves on national tv.

I agree with you. These people are being encouraged by their families and friends. They actually believe they can sing well. Take the girl who was Jewel's biggest fan or something like that. She really thought she was good. I even think her family did as well. It was sad though that they did all that (go to her work, film her for that long) and she sucked. Poor girl. She was begging them to change their minds.

i have always said to myself the same question, i mean i went so far as asking my mom and sister if they would let me go try out on american idol and they said no way. but then again look at that one guy that has made thousands of dollars off of being a terrible singer.

I work with a girl who thinks she sings good. She's always putting her heart and soul into it when she sings but she sounds terrible. No one says anything to her because we dont want to hurt her feelings, she thinks she sounds good. I think these people really think they sound good too. They wouldnt be trying out on american idol if they didnt think they had a chance at it.

You know that makes me wonder - what would the world be like if we were more honest and direct with people? I mean, would telling your coworker that her singing is terrible destroy her self esteem or would it drive her to singing lessons? One thaing that has always amazed me is the belief in people of their abilities. In many documented cases, this belief in one's abilities has gotten people killed. At least in the case of American Idol, we are only killed with our laughter. If anybody ever hears me sing, please let me know the honest truth (you will never hear this because I know howw I sing and I try not to punish others with my skills)!

Personally I think it is one of two things that make people who cannot sing get up there and do it on national television. 1). They do not believe nor listen to others about their singing. They think they are great and don't care what others say and are going to prove it. They are wrong lol 2.) They KNOW how bad they are and are hoping that they are so bad that they will make it on national television, at any cost. These people are striving to be popular and be someone. I would rather be a no one than be known as the Next William Hung. Just my opinion. They put these people on television for enertainment purposes and to make the ones who sound great sound even better, again my opinion.

You must be kidding. You don't know what American Idol is? Ok on the off chance that you don't know, because you are perhaps not from the United States or do not have a television, or do not read magazines, OR your country does not have such a contest... American Idol is a reality television show here in the United States, it is an offshoot of a show done in Europe. People come from ALLLLL over to compete to be the #1 best singer. This person is first judged by judges. If they accept them, they go on to be on the show, this is where they perform weekly and the public calls in and gives them a vote. Whoever has the most votes wins. Hope this helps.

I think they think they are good enough that they don't need to listen to themselves or they do listen to themselves and they still think they can sing. I can't sing at all and don't even try and I would never go on there in front of millions of people and make a fool of myself. You figure their family members would want to save them from being embarrassed and getting their feelings hurt. Unless they think they are good too or just don't know how to tell them they're not good. I can't wait to hear the good singers come on. And what about the ones who dress up in those rediculous outfits? Do they think dressing up like that will make it better on them? I think it makes it worse. :)

I think they just want and wish so badly that they could be good singers that they just don't want to even think about the possibility that they don't have any talent. Also I think to some people what they hear coming out of their mouth sounds different to them than it does to other people. It's sad. Some of them really are soooooo bad. :(

What I could not believe was the number of people that came with some of these people. These people had to know before they left their home that there was no chance in heck that these people were going to win. I had a friend once that used to go on and on about how well her son sang.So natuarlly I was really excited to hear him.And oh my god I thought the paint was going to peel of the walls he was so bad.So maybe it is a group hysteria type thing. But dang people save your loved one from embarrassment and tell them they can not sing.

I think many people may, but some probably don't belive that they are as bad as people tell them. I'm sure there are many people who sing badly that go, just because they can still have a chance to get there 15 min. of fame because they show the worst singers on Tv.

I watched it last night. There were some really bad singers on there. And then they cry and get attitudes with the judges because they think they sing good. My guess is that they just want to be on tv and make a scene. They have to know they sound terrible. I can understand being nervous but you can tell nervousness or if they just can't sing.

I posted something similar to this earlier. I asked why the judges are so aggressive this year. But most of the contestants were horrible last night. I think they are just looking for a chance to get on tv. They know that they arent going to make it. The ones that do I feel bad for, but majority of them just want their day on tv. Thats my opinion.
