I would start by checking the UK's foreign minister's website for what information they need to know from visa applicants. At a mininum, they would want to know how long you plan to stay, where you will stay (just say 'friend'), the purpose of your visit, and possibly your source of income. They will need to know your full name, current address & contact info, passport number, where and when issued, etc. Call them first to confirm what info they need and then write the letter.
