My daughter recently began middle school..Her bus arrives at 6:30 and school starts at 7:10..This means in order for her to be online and have a good breakfest she is waking up at 5:45..It just seems to early to me.. Some nights she falls asleep by 7pm exhausted..This cuts out on family time as some days I don't get home from work until 5:30 I think it also must be harder for a child to learn when they have to be there so early..A recent study suggested that preteens especially need not 8 hours but 10-11 hours of sleep per night during this period of thier lives... The city says they need to do it this way in order to have enough buses for the children ( the middle and high school buses have to be back by 730 to start taking children in elementary school) There has to be a better way! It just seems to early to me!

I am probably in the minority here, but I never had a problem with school hours being so early. In fact, when I was in kindergarten I used to get up at like 5am just because I wanted to! *laugh* But then, school hours for that age are actually started later in the morning than the hours for, say, middle school. But I used to be such a morning person taht I realy enjoyed it, and I never remember being worn out by the evening.. I just naturally went to bed around 9:30 or 10:30 and wasn't a person to stay up late, either. I do understand where you are coming from, and I'm really sorry that it isn't so easy for you with the school hours being so early :/ But I for one was never bothered by it. As I say, I may well be in the minority. it is only as I've gotten older that I find it really hard to get up in the mornings *laugh*

You transport problem is even in my country. I used to start school at 8.45am but I had to be waiting on the stage by 7:00am. School used to finish at 3.45 but the driver was always around one hour late. He had to do other school rounds and could not be on time for us. It was the same story year in year. And to my knowleged the sitatuation has not improved. I believe that parents should have an active role in their children's education, being more influential in school's decision. They should put pressure on governments, shools administrations. In my opinion young children should have an eight hours sleep and should not wake up at 5.30am.

If school started that late the kids would be lucky to be home by 5pm. I would rather my kids go at a normal time and be home for dinner.

If enough people would complain at school (mothers and fathers) i am sure they will hear you and change something ! Although i wake up at 7:00 i am very tired at school ! Waking up at 5:45 i would probably die :) ! I finish school at aroung 5 pm sometimes earlier :(

I don't get the part "this means in order for her to be online". I think school is a top priority than being online.

It is early, maybe parents can sign a petition with the board of education to see if anything can be worked out. The school in my area starts at 8PM

The best way you can resolve this situation is to drive her to her school. By doing so you would also get some free time to talk to your daughter as this age needs parental guidance. Buses have to come early as they have to pick so many students from all parts of the city. So you cant change the situation on the part of school but surely enough you can change it on your part. Wishing you and your daughter happy drive together.

i remember, even in high school, i thought that school started to early. i had a job online which had me working 4am - 7:30am and then i had to be at school at 7:45. now i know that my circumstance is much different then most, but the same idea still stands. i have remained an active part in my high school still and they have been talking about bumping the starting time to somewhere around 8:30. again i dont know if this is just in my situation, but because a lot of kids are bussed in the dont want to be waking up at 5 in the morning to get on a bus to go to school. i think that if there were enough parents, teachers, administration and students who rallied together, not in protest, but in agreement that something could be done about this.

in Indonesia, all of the school here begins at 7.00am. and you have to wake earlier because in Indonesia, most of the student uses public transport to go to school. atleast, we have to be ready and pack up, and goes to school at 5.30am. you have to estimed your time incase there is traffic, especially in jakarta. So, your problems are the same as every people here.

i agree with you. when i was in high school (before i could drive to school my senior year), i would have to catch the bus around 6:10 or 6:15, so i'd wake up about 5:30 or 5:45 to get ready. i think that's pretty ridiculous. my school started at about 7am. i would never eat breakfast and never had time to pack a lunch in the mornings. ive had trouble sleeping for years (im basically an insomniac), so it takes me hours to fall asleep and i wake up constantly throughout the night. i think that's so unhealthy for a teenager to barely get enough sleep, wake up early to go to school, stay in school all day, do sports or other school activities after school, and then spend the rest of the night doing homework. it messes up their physical and mental state. what exhausted teenager is going to live up to his or her potential in school?

believe it or not kids use to go to school with no internet. why does she have to go online in the morning? if she is doing homework she should do it in the evening then she would not have to get up so early to go to school
