state legislator said black people "should get over" slavery and questioned whether Jews should apologize "for killing Christ"Del. Frank D. Hargrove, 79, made his remarks in opposition to a measure that would apologize on the state's behalf to the descendants of slaves. Black lawmakers swiftly denounced Hargrove's comments. "When somebody tells me I should just get over slavery, I can only express my emotion by projecting that I am appalled, absolutely appalled," said Del. Dwight C. Jones, head of the Legislative Black Caucus. Del. David L. Englin also criticized Hargrove's remarks, recalling that his grandparents were driven from their homes in Poland "by people who believed that as Jews, we killed Christ." When Hargrove rose to speak, he told Englin he didn't care about Englin's religion. "I think your skin was a little too thin," Hargrove said as lawmakers gasped and groaned So what do you all think if this? Is this no big deal?

Well this fellow is certainly an equal-opportunity offender! How long before he insults Asians, Latinos, etc. etc.... I would say that he could some sensitivity training/ enlightenment, but at 79 maybe he is beyond learning some new ideas!

I think HE should get over his annoyance that people have not yet recovered from the atrocities that were committed.

This is another proud step backwards for our government in trying to create peace and equality . Please remember there is a HUGE difference between forgiving and forgetting. We are to LEARN from our mistakes and make correction to ensure the mistakes are never made again. Politics and reality rarely meet.

Oh for the love of... you can't use the killing Christ argument. There's little to no historical evidence that the man known as Jesus was killed by anyone other than the Romans. I'm not talking about how it goes in scripture, I'm talking about historical, verified evidence. Slavery happened. The holocaust happened. And neither should just be 'gotten over'. I don't think they should be used as fallbacks or as a trump card to whip out, but they aren't something an entire people can move passed easily.

I think if that ever happened to him, he wouldn't be saying that at all. I think it is a big deal and it should still be remember no matter what.
