Anyone scared of Heights?

Heights - This is a picture overlooking a building from somewhere it's higher...

I know this may be a funny or silly subject but it's sooo true for me...I am so scared of heights. I love amusement parts, this year I want to get on a rollercoaster for a change and stop being left behind, I want to get over my fears. I don't know why but I can't even stand to be in a elevator that is glass. Those vents on the sidewalks, I will walk around it before I even walk on it... Is there any suggestions for me to help me get over the fear of heights? Do someone else share the same fear? How do you cope...

I do scared of height, I really dont like riding on a rollercoaster or something like that for I'm really afraid of the height. Maybe it is one of your weakness. Maybe if you really want to conquer it you have to keep on doing what you dont want to do like going to a high place or riding on a roller coastger until your fear is gone.

I am only afraid of heights if I am high on a ladder I do not fear the height I fear the stability. I do not like roller coasters because of their speed not the height. I love to fly and be in elevators. My ex husband was afraid of heights and my son is too. however, my ex took my son on a helicopter ride with a glass bottom, he did this to try to help both of them and I think it did help. They both are afraid of heights but not as much as they were. So maybe do something that is very safe first, like the helicopter ride then graduate to the roller coaster.

I agree with you on the stability thing. I absolutely hate extension ladders for this reason.

I look at this this way.... I am not scare of heights because the height does not hurt you. I am not scared of falling because the fall does not hurt either. What I am scared of is the impact when I hit the ground!!! You know that hurts! So, I reassure myself when I am at a high level, that I am not going to fall. Of course, I am always looking to be sure that no one else will fall too. But that is how I handle it. Just take a deep breath and tell yourself that you are not going to fall. :)

dang girl !! I feel so sorry for you Did you make the roller coaster or not ?? I would have to say the only way to get over them is to just do them til your aren't afraid anymore.I work off an extension ladder, and on roof toops in my line of work so heights don't bother me

It's coming up this summer when the weather break...The past years I wouldn't dare get on a rollercoaster. I would find myself watching to see what the rollercoaster do thinking if I watched it a few times I would be alright..But nope...I still don't do it...

Oh yes I have the exact same fear. My son laughs at me. If someone gets too close to a railing I panic, if I look down I immediately feel sick. There was a commercial on not that long ago but I can't remember what it was for. But you saw something racing and it stops at the edge of a building and you are looking down. Now just seeing that on tv makes me sick. I use to love watching Fear Factor but the ones that involved heights turned into being my time to go get a snack or change channels.

LOL LOL you could've said it any better...I fear heights for myself and other people. It's very scary and I am not only sick, I'm nervous. I see someone on a ladder, I'm saying "please hurry up and be careful" like if they fall I'm ready to catch them..lol... I don't know a way to get over it...I have no idea...I just deal with it.. Thank you for responding

I am very nervous about heights myself. But it is more the idea of falling from heights than the actual heights themselves that bother me. I used to barely be able to step on an escalator for years through a fear that I might slip and fall down it since it is moving as you try to step onto it. It also took me years to get on anything but very simple and mild rides at our local amusement park. My best friend at the time _finally_ dragged me onto some rides, and I *loved* them! You should really try.. you can always shut your eyes if it gets to be too much! I love the rides now, and as long as I feel safe I don't really have any problem with being up high ^_^

I know many people who fear heights, or have certain phobias, which is what you have. My brother and my sister do not ride on scary rides at amusement parks, they tend to stick to the kiddie rides. This is due to the fact, that when they were younger, my mom used to worry about them a lot, when they got on the scary rides (while not worrying about me and my other sister, because we were very bold), and so they became scared little by little, and now as adults still are. Sometimes, however, it is just something developed through the environment around you or through a "Specific" moment, like if you tripped close to the edge of a cliff, and are now afriad of heights (for example), because you were so traumatized that you thought you would die. A phobia that I had for a long time, that I still work on (because sometimes, they never go away), is being on the spot, or public speaking, etc...those kind of things, and I know exactly how it developed, and when, because I had not been that way when I was younger, but it slowly grew until I had a problem...and then, in college, I had to take speech classes, and in upper division courses, you have to give speeches, so I am better now. The way that I recommend getting over your phobia, is by slowly doing things that you are afraid to do...some people try to just get it over with quickly, but that is very stressful. Good luck, and hope it works out. If you need any support, or have questions, I am here for you.

You are most welcome...I was in a parking garage last week which was glass all the way around and I had to go to the 7th floor. I actually got on it, but looked directly at the door and tried hard as ever to not use my peripheral vision...lol...This is def going to be a process alone...lol...I got a month or so before I see warmer weather..Thank you again..and you deserve best response for even wanting to give me support, that means alot :)

Thank you thank you for your response. That's probably how it happened to me. My grandmother raised me and she is probably just as scary as I am in somethings..I know she tried to protect me didn't want me to get on HUGE rides...never really being exposed to them as I got older I want to get on them...But when i say OK, I turn around and say NO THANKS...lol...thank you for all your wonderful advice and I will look into that..This year is my new years resolution to get over my fear of heights and be able to enjoy things my friend enjoy and I know I could enjoy IF it wasn't for the height of it...

Yes, that is true, and hopefully it will ease away with time and hardwork. You might find that you really like the thrill and freeness of the rides, or you might think (like my hubby, that it is not worth the wait in line), and get bored. Thanks for the best response, by the way.

Try rock climbing at an indoor gym where they have you suspended by a rope. Also learn about structural integrity. Personally I don't fear heights so much as falling.

Yup im scared of heights big time! I can fly as long as no one trys to tell me to calm down, i can climb a ladder but only about 3 steps! I cant look down if i am shopping in a 3 level shopping centre, i cant be in closed spaces, i cant sleep with pillow or sheets over my head, i hate water on my face umm i think there may be some more but thats all i can think of off the top of my head. Im just letting you know that it is normal to have fears and phobias but how you control them is up to you. Dont let them control you! You cant have someone to force you to get on your rollercoaster but gradually you will do it, dont try the biggest scariest looking one first cause thats just silly! Checkthem out and see a smaller one and start from there. Just keep in your mind that YOU are in control of your fears and they can only beat you if you let them. Good luck i know that its not easy!!

I am so scared of heights that i feel that i will fall down. Its very difficult for me to adjust with height. Whenever i look from heights i feel that i will lose my balance and will fall down. Even i am scared for other people who climb high. Its a feeling that make me very restless. I don't think i can remove this fear fully from his heart. i hope to find a solution soon.

ya I do have the same fear as you do, but not upto that extent. See, it happens as you think negatively when you are there. It is not like any desease oe something. It is just a tendency to feel so. All you have to do is just divert your mind somewhere esle which can help you stop thinking negatively. Which in turn will avoid your fear of height.! let me know if want me to be more elaborate on it. thank you.
