They should do what they did to internet explorer 7.0 where you need to register it online and only those with original windows OS should be able to do it real time and they should do the same to vista also where those who are using original vista should be able to browse the net, those who are using pirated softwares it should not allow them to browse the net by way of any automatic blocking, etc. I guess this is the only (or may be i am wrong) to stop the operating system piracy which has been rampant in its previous versions like windows 2000, windows xp, etc. They also should make their future operating systems more secure than ever, because that's where they tend to lose their grip on customers and thus they end up buying the pirated rather than the original. They should plug this hole before hitting vista on the market.

With the number of users all over the world, microsoft can afford to reduce prices to accomodate everyone and pur pirates out of business.

You are right. There's a huge differences for original versions compare to pirated versions. Previously had work as a freelance computer sales and services provider and I came across lots of customers who refuse to use the original windows which I do understand very well its due to the big price gab. From my own opinions windows with old versions will be less problems even its pirated versions which was due to the older versions can works just fine even without any softwares o firmwares upgraded while for the newer versions since the XP versions microsoft was smart enough to make it in such a way that only those original copies will be able to updates all the necessary service packs for your OS to maintain at the tip top performance. They come out with the very complicated and effectives program to track on their licensing issues which will requests you to pass through the licenses verify process whenever you need anything from microsoft online. I am now still using windows XP home editions and XP Pro and both were license copies:)

The key solution is to lower prices. In Malta Microsoft had an excellent agreement with the government of Malta and the Windows XP pack was on sale for around 40 US Dollars (lm13 Maltese Liri). Lots of students subscribed to this offer. I think that its the only way of fighting against piracy.

One way to stop Piracy could be: distribute the software for free or a very low price, and then have the users using to to install , register and pay for a licence fees( just like PC games you play online , e.g. World of Warcraft) . have them pay for 3 years, with 3 payments that will ultimately sum to the total of the software , they would otherwise price it at. that way you are guaranteed to use the OS for 3 years, and also pay for it. the above is an option, and probably not the best option. this means MS having a lot of customer information with them, including credit card details. possible, but then requires hugh investment to build a system to maintain all that data, securely! cheers , Karan

I can't tell exactly what microsoft can do to stop piracy, but whatever it does I hope it is highly sucessful. I am sick of people using pirated software, I live in a country where it is the rule (piracy) not the exception, and it must stop, if you want a software that is not open-source, freeware, then BUY it. That is my opinion.

To be frank I also support the new of orginal verson of the software..but the problem is that piracy can't be stopped it will remain in the atmosphere is some way or the other..The main problem is that we can't change ourself..and prevent us from using pirated version of the softwares.. But Microsoft has really done a fantastic job in the development of their new OS i.e Vista..with optimum security and had done their best to prevent the piracy of this much awaited version of the Windows..

I am not sure what do you want to say : if you have windows vista they make you upgrades to each program from thje computer?? That sound strange. I think they make update only to vista not other software you installed in this PC later.

I know microsoft should alow the users to use the operation system if they getit activated on net for once. That is the only way to stop piracy.I know buying the original windows is better than using pirated one but i dont agree to 2 point what you said.I believe that Surfing net can never be secure.

It will most likely be vulnerable durring it's first year because all the programs will have to readapt to the new vista. THis will also make new viruses come up to infiltrate more security that will be only on vista. Hopefully they will take care of those problems in the next few years after release.

The best fight back against piracy is awareness. Like you, a lot of us have really been dark. My be lack of motivation on the vendor's part to explain these concerns to us is one of the root causes of the problem. Microsoft should conduct proper training of the computer vendors and motivate them to explain the benefits of purchasing the software to their customers. A lack of will on vendors part is supplemented by the price advantage which a noramal customer looks at during the initial phase. But later on as time passes, he has to pay more money to get windows installed after running into problems with the pirated version of Windows.

If you'd ask me I would add: 5 Open sourced windows, that's the only way to prevent piracy, simply because there would be no reason to pirate it. perhaps if they wouldn't make it the cost of a motorcycle I would consider purchasing.

If Windows was at a fair price most people would just buy it. Poor people & those on very low incomes can't afford it which means people are being denied access to computers & the internet based on their income, which is very unfair. This wonderful & modern technology should be available to everyone, not just those that can afford it. & as already said here, if it was cheaper they'd probably make more profit, because more people would be willing to pay for it.
