Do you think there is such a thing as a stupid question?? If we seek knowledge of something whether it is a certain topic or not should we be made to feel like ti was too stupid to ask???

I think there is such a thing as a stupid question, its a question thats asked even when you really should know the answer. Bit of a loose link, but my brother used to have a mate whose girlfriend once asked us at a party, why dont planes crash into stars? Thats an example, I wasnt going to reply but I just saw her at the pub.

No but when its an 18 year old college (English college) student I would say its about as daft as they come, my brother could tell you more stupid things she has said / asked but I cant remember them as that just really stood out.

I guess that this could be considered a stupid question or could it?? If say your 2 year old or even 5 year old asked you that same question would it still be stupid to you then?

I'm kidding! It depends on the question. Give me an example of a so called "stupid question".

LOL ... The point that i was getting at is that if a person knew the answer than they would not ask the question. So what to you makes any question a stupid one?? To me there is no such thing as somebody wanting an answer not matter what it is that they want answered!

I guess you're right about that. You are so smart! Can you tell me what the "cosine of theta" is? How about the "sine of theta"?

Was once told that the only stupid question is the one not asked. If you word the question to fit the situation then it can be a great conversation starter. Or maybe you will learn something that will benefit you or someone you know at a later date. Be confident and decent people will answer and sometimes welcome the questions!!

Depends on the context and the lead up to asking the question in my opinion. If somebody has ignorantly sat there and paid no attention whatsoever to something and then asks a blatantly ignorant question because of their indifference then yes, you could class this as a stupid question. If they are genuinely confused about something and ask an honest and sincere question then it should never be called stupid. We all think differently and we do not all have each and every concept come to us as easily as it does to all others.

I have always said there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers. I think mylot has proven me wrong!LOL On another question and answer site someone posted one word as a question. I did a search on that word and gave him 4 links to sites that came up. I figured he may not speak English, and since it was a post whatever you want places, I figured it would stay and I wanted some one who searched that word and came up with a link to that site some kind of answer.

People always tell you never to be afraid of asking a question. But then you go and ask that question and people make fun of you. It makes no sense. I don't think their is a such thing as a stupid question.

I agree 100% i don't think that any question is a stupid question. I don't know hwy people have to judge stuff as being stupid in the first place!

I agree. Sometimes I want to ask something and I am afraid people will think I'm stupid but usually when I go ahead and ask it I find out that a lot of other people don't know either.

As far as children are concerned, there definitely is no such thing as a stupid question. I have known children to be terribly hurt by people laughing at their questions. Any question from a child NEEDS to be answered. It might seem stupid to us, but not to them. Having their question laughed at will probably make them dubious about asking another, until they give up altogether. When it comes to adults, I guess we have to take into consideration that some minds are more active than others. What might seem stupid to us just could be important to someone else. Unless it is obvious that a question is asked for the wrong reason, we should try to answer, without causing offence.

I would say, generally, no. If you don't know something, what is the harm in asking? It may seem stupid to someone else, but if you want to know, you need to ask. my husband, however, thinks most people ARE stupid, and if they could learn to look around or look something up, they wouldn't have to ask questions. but that's just my perspective and his.

I agree with you. There is no stupid question, unless the question people ask just to annoy ot distract you. Sometimes people do know the answer but they ask you when they see you are busy, just to interrupt what you are doing

oh yes most definately lol and I hear one so often its not even funny, I would be waiting at a bus stop, near my place, where only one bus really goes by I might add lol, and a person would actually approach me and ask me if the bus has come yet, of course I answer no, but I would find that a stupid question, just on the point that if the bus had come I probably wouldnt be standing there waiting, and the sign clearly shows that there is only one bus that goes by there... but anyways thats just me, maybe the question has its validity in its point as I could have missed the bus while coming to the bus stop or something, I dont know...

O dont think there's a stupid question. It was called a question obviously because somebody is searching for the answer. It may sounds stupid to others who did not understand it or dont find it interested but its not a stupid question.
