I love my iron skillet and love to cook lots of great dishes in it...why do you reach for your iron skillet instead of another? Do you use it only for 1 dish, or many?

I would love to have an iron skillet. I just have yet to go out and get one. I will sooner or later.

i do use one now, but growing up and even now my parents use them. that is all they have besides corning ware to cook with on the stove. i think some foods just taste better in an iron skillet.

I love my cast iron! I think I'd have to offer three reasons: 1. It is so versatile! I use my cast iron for baking (cornbread), browning meats, as a griddle for pancakes and french toast...for just about everything except tomato dishes. The acid in tomatoes affects the seasoning. 2. It takes a while to heat, but I find it holds the heat better than other types of cookware. It heats evenly and consistently. 3. Nonstick!...once it's well seasoned, anyway. Make that four :) 4. It's inexpensive and (with proper care) lasts a lifetime. Actually, even without proper care, cast iron is pretty resilient. Last summer, my husband and I helped a good friend restore a bunch of cast iron that had been really abused. And every piece of cast iron we've bought has been under $15.00. As stated before, I love my cast iron! :) ~Sara

I have an entire batterie of cast iron pots and pans, and use them for many things. The skillets, well seasoned, are peerless for eggs. The Dutch oven makes stews even more wonderful. Nothing ever buns in cast iron.

I have never used an iron skillet. I heard they work really well to cook certain foods. Maybe one day I will get one and cook with it.

I use our cast iron skillet for everything that I end up cooking. I find it to be so very convenient.. I like how big it is as well because in the past I've used other items to cook our food.. And it ends up not being able to store half as much as our cast iron skillet is able to. I as well like how a cast iron skillet provides one with even heat. I know sometimes other pans will take longer to cook your food, or even longer to get working as fast as a skillet! And who wouldn't want to pick there skillet to be there number one cooking tool?! I find skillets to be so much easier to clean then other pans which is very beneficial! I use it for cooking meats, such as hamburger quite often. I'll cook hamburger in the skillet & then add other things that are a part of the recipe. I find it always to be just the right size! . . I as well love using it to make southern fried chicken. I remember so many times when I used this other pan we have.. And it was never big enough to cook half of the coated chicken pieces I'd put in the pan. And instead of being able to cook everything all at once I'd have to go back & cook the rest of the chicken.. After the first batch was done.. It made the meal take longer to cook, & it was just quite annoying since I thought it would take a little bit shorter then it had. It kind of made me get turned off from making southern fried chicken for a while quite sadly.. But I know if I was to make it again I would definitely use our skillet this time around! . . Thank you for allowing me to share with you my experience of using a iron skillet, & NOT using a iron skillet.. I think we all know where I stand on using an iron skillet compared to using any other pan.

regarding the chicken, i'm the same way...if i have to take forever cooking it, i'm about too tired to eat it! that's another reason i like my skillet so much!..i have sometimes cooked 3 small portions of different things at once, and had a whole meal with one pan! thanks a lot
