well I've read the book "the origin". According to that book wolverine's real name is james. Logan is actually the name of his worst enemy with whom he often fights...(I forgot the name). It's a big story. You should get the book.

According to "Origins" Wolverine's real name is James Howlett. John Howlett was said to be his father, but he is not, Thomas Logan is his father.
