Who will be the number 1 after Federer?

The royalty of Federer can resist for a lot of time (also another 3 years, I think) but who could be the new name of tennis to take his place at number 1 in the future? Too easy to tell Nadal. If Nadal is in good physical conditions, he can make a lot of points on clay and enough on hard court to be number 1. But other young tennis players to watch are Tomas Berdych from Czech Republic and Novak Djokovic from Serbia (strong on all surfaces!). And do not forget French Monfils and argentine Del Potro (but only on clay court for now). What do you think?

That's what I think, too... he's still pretty young. His successor is probably playing in the juniors now.

Yeah, that's also a valid point...Federer still has a lot of years ahead of him, so it might be too soon to start speculating. Well, anything but Marat Safin anyway, can't stand the guy...

Nice to find a tennis discussion here. I think Djokovic has a great chance and Andy Murray is a star of the future too. As for del Potro - he is actually happier on hard surfaces than clay and intends to play as many hard court tourneys as possible this year to increase his experience - so he is definately one to watch for the future.

I haven't seen these guys... they don't tend to get shown on TV. I saw Youzhny [sp?] at the U.S. Open in the summer, he had a great match when he upset Nadal. He actually gave Federer more of a contest in Melbourne than Roddick did; he lost 7-5 in the third set, I think.

I'm not familiar with these players; they never get shown on TV. I try to get out to the US Open in the summer to see some of the less-publicized players. I'll watch for these.

I also think that Nadal doesn't has what it takes to become the number one in world tennis, he's too overrated. I really like those eastern-europeans you've mentioned, such as Berdych and Djokovic, they surely are consistent enough, But I'll have to go ahead and pic Andy Roddick.

Federer Jr. :-D No, it's a joke. I don't know the world of tennis but a good player for me is Nadal, from spain. He's a great player.
