Why is the world so consumed about making money?

Hi everybody, something has always bothered me, and I want to know why. Why does money make the world go around? Is it the nice and expensive things people can buy with it? Is it so people can show off how "great" they are. I mean just look at the world. Everybody is out there for themselves, nobody wants to help each other, when it should be, that we live in a community where, the people with less money, are helped by those with more. Instead, normally those with more, only care about themselves and making more money. I'm not saying money isn't important, because it is. Everybody needs it to survive, but the real importance of it and where our society has taken it is way to extreme. Why is our society like this?

For poor people, money means so much simply because, without it, they will not eat. And if they do not eat, they will not survive. For more well off people, who can afford luxuries, it is the materialistic media that drives them. In the media, we are constantly presented with people driving flash cars and living in big mansions, and everyone thinks, "I would like to have some of that". MTV Cribs is one of the main culprits. The celebs on there are so obsessed with money and posessions and status. You always hear them say "Look at my big a*s 50 inch plasma TV", but you will never hear them say "This little TV means so much to me as it was the only one I could afford when I was broke".

Yes there are some, but I wouldn't say lots. Society as a whole is greedy, and self-consumed in the marterial world, by judging people on what they own, how much money they have.

Because nothing is FREE now..even now a days ..one try to buy someone's love or even can take someone's life in exchange of money..(sorry for using this statement)..but this is true..Money has changed the world and also its inhabitants..so much that every runs after money..where I can get money..take an example..of mine..I first joined this site for money..so that I can upgrade my computer parts..but now the thinking is a little bit different...But again the main motive is money..the world has become so competitive and greedy that we need money for our existence and also to make our family survive..and also to establish ourself in the so called society..

This is because since the great depression, people have been conditioned to believe that money was the most important thing in the world. This is so wrong and has lead us to become a gluttonous country fueled by consumerism.

I think it is because man is never content with life. Guess it is human nature to seek for more, whether material, spiritual, emotional, physical. But in fairness to others, there are also kind-hearted philanthropists who wholeheartedly share their wealth without expecting something in return. thanks to them.

I think most of us assume more money means we'll be more comfortable with life. Have nicer things and an easier life. This isn't necessarily true, but sometimes it's easy to convince ourselves that if we just had a little more money in our pockets we'd be happier. I've found the more I make, the more I want to make. This seems like a problem. I'm trying to learn from my own experiences with money and not to be so obsessed with earning more and more. Life certainly shouldn't be about money, but rather about people. My family should be come first! They need me and my time a whole lot more than I need another dollar in my pocket! lol ;)

Society is like this because of our governments and there taxes. Without the taxes I think everyone would be better off.

Now people think that if they have money they have everything. This just makes them run all day to gather money and so they forget about living theyr lives and having funn. It's a important problem in these days.

I have to admit that it's pretty sad how incredibly greedy we are. The whole concept of money is one that the human world would probably be better off without, but I guess that we couldn't figure out how to live in the first place without inventing it. *laugh* For me, money consumes my life right now because I can only make money online and I have to struggle to do that in the amounts that I need. But I would like to think that I know where to draw the line between needing money and being completely consumed by the idea of money.

hey man the first question you should ask yourself is why you are here on this website starting up this discussion.it is obvious that you want to make money.nothing happens in this world without money.without money nothing goes round.give me two things you can do peacefully without money and mind you note the name peacefully.it is the way of the world and it is going to get worse and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Is it obvious? Where did I state my reason for being here is to earn money? Nowhere. I am here because I enjoy the community and discussing my personal expirences with others. That's the mindset I'm complaining about, the whole "well, it's already messed up, let's just make it worse." This isn't a rant on money mind you, this is a rant on the obsession of money.

I don't think money necessarily makes the world go round. But having it makes things easier. I think there are many people with money who do help others. They just don't toot their own horn about it, so we never even know what they've done.

I really don't know..could it be some people are selfish? I think that once you have money...you get a taste for it...and you must have more possessions and more..so you work and try to earn more and more...through other means as well. I personally like to have money...and being that most people struggle..sometimes that is not always possible...I myself do try and help others less fortunate...and I think that if you can afford it you should...even if you don't have a lot of money...

I think you know by now how expensive to live here in america, you need money in everything you do, your not going to survive here if you don't have money, im from the philippines and I do miss the way our community there help each other unlike here, I could go to the neighbor and ask for vegetables for free but here you need to pay for everything, i haven't had a chance to get anything for free. I think our society has no choice but try to earn money as much as we can to be able to survive.

We just discussed this money thing in sunday school this morning Let us remember that we came into this world with nothing and we will leave this world with nothing It is not so important to have all these worldly possessions We should be more concerned about believing in God and giving more to him since it is God who provides for us all We should not be so concerned about what our neighbor has or thinks about us for how littlw we may have Our society is worldly and human The more we have --the more we want As for me, I am trying to be satified with what I have and not try to want more than we can afford

i believe that now adays there is nothing that money cannot buy. even love at times can be brought. which is really a sad truth. lucky are those people who doesn't find hapiness in money and can still live happilly with the persons they care for.

Hey! Thanks for your response on my last post. By the way, may be you can ask jovein2008, jovein2008 just answer my post that he/she was here on earth for money. He/She may answer your questions about this post, you might like to give it a try. Hope you wont argue with the person, just ask somethings that worries you about why people are greedy about money or sometimes why they love it. By the way, thanks again for the response.
