Reporting Abuse

Sometimes I feel like I am just tattling when I am reporting abuse, but I was wondering? How does myLot perceive people who report abuse a lot? I will report abuse in other people's discussions as well as in my own. I will check out someone's profile if they have spammed one discussion to check for a pattern, and will report several instances of abuse. I feel like a stalker, then. Do you think it has an effect on how myLot pays you, if you regularly, and validly report abuse?

I haven't thought of that yet. I also report some and forgot their names, so I am not really sure if mylot gives us credit for our reports!;) But do we really have to get something for an exchange? I think of it as just like it is our duties here as members to report it to them, and them to investigate what we've reported.

I do it anyway, as it is not fair to the people who take the time and have something to say.

I believe it all depends on what you are reporting to mylot about and it all depends on how these people are abusing the system, I am not sure on the effect that mylot takes this if we are reporting on a regular basis, but if they are valid then I believe it should.

The only time I report abuse is if I see the same person doing it over and over again. Usually it is just spammers that say nothing about the topic. The other time is if I see someone just saying yes no or i don't know to everything. With those people I usually check their other responces to see if it was just a one or two times thing.

I see I am not the only one who goes to verify on other discussions, thank you for your post. I know I do not get paid for the time I take to do this, and neither do the others out there who do. Sometimes it is a matter of accuracy and principle.

GardenGerty, as someone who works in online community management (but NOT at myLot.com), I'd say that reporting abuse is something that is appreciated by almost all site administrators where a moderation team is in place. If a "report abuse" option is offered, you will find that it's generally on a site that is generating very high posting activity and, in spite of the best efforts of moderators, they just can't be everywhere at once. I think that when members participate in reporting abuse, it makes the moderation task a lot more directed and effective, shining a light on areas needing the most work, if you will.

I would give you two plusses if I could, this is a good response, to a question that ran throughmy mind briefly this morning. I wish I had more than one option for best response.

I know what you mean. I often have felt that even though mylot has said we should report cheating, spamming, scamming etc. Are we punished if we report too much. While I don't go looking for abuse..who has to look..lol. I do report it whenever I see it. Sometimes I have reported something that I'm not sure of so I always say to Mylot "I suspect this is abuse and wanted to bring it to your attention" I haven't figured out if it affects our pay or not, well I suppose if you stop cheaters we all make out. But I wish we knew for sure.. excellent discussion.

Thanks, and I think that is very reasonable. I have, in an abuse report even said, "you know, this person does not seem to understand, is there any way to help them get it?" or something to that effect. I know some people are not intending to cheat, but are doing what they think is right based on what others have done.

Why would you go through peoples profiles to just to report them, thats going way to far off line. Dont you even feel guilty one bit that your doing this?

I go through a profile to look for a pattern if they have posted something that is an abuse. Sometimes the post that looks like an abuse is just a mistake or misunderstanding, you can tell by how they have posted other responses. If they have said !!!!! to me and ###### to you and @@@@@ to someone else, it is abuse. If they just accidentally did it once, it is an accident. I look to see, before I report them unfairly.

mylot recommends reporting abuse as long as it is a legitimate complaint. They would not want people reporting people for no good reason at all so as long as your abuse reports are for good reasons that they agree with they will not have a problem with the one reporting. I do not like telling on someone either and will only do it if the reply is just a word or few words or if they are being rude or they copied and pasted someone else's comments. I do not think this will effect your pay one way or another but they may send you a message if your reports are not warranted.

Well I have not heard from them, so I must be okay. Since you have to fill out an explanation of why something is an abuse, it would be hard to not have a good reason. I do not even report rude people. I figure their responses can stand, and will let others know what they are like.

I am not sure. But I hope you are not just reporting abuse because a person doesn't agree with you, or you don't agree with their opinion. We are all intitled to our own oppinion.

No, if you read any of my discussions, you will see that that is not the case, these are discussions, not hunting trips. The things I report are when someone cut/paste parts of a discussion or response as their own response. I report people who post like this to my discussions(.............................) for about ten lines. Other punctuation only posts, number only posts and posts that are random letters. People whe deliberately take up space and try to get credit by add nothing to the discussion. I may end up reporting a lot because I read a lot of responses. I respond first to my friends posts, and I do get annoyed when people are just goofing off.

I think we have a better Mylot, there still a lot of spammers here, but is better. Maybe theres a lot of reports everyday so they can not manage it, but be patient and continue reporting, of course real abuses.

I usually report one or two people daily, sometimes even more depending on who gets in my way lol I don't report minor abuses like 2 or three words replies, i just give them the - rate, other things like copy and paste, hatred posts, replies not related to topics, etc always get reported by me. I don't think mylot should pay us for reporting but by removing the abusers/cheaters we contribute to raising our earnings in a way when we help of keeping the quality level of mylot as a whole.

Not if your reports are valid. Just make sure your reports follow the guidelines of mylot. MyLot wants us to report the rule breakers. It help them, which in turn helps us especially since they are growing so fast..

For a site such as this one to stay healthy, the whole community needs to stay on top of abuse and make sure abusers are removed. I appreciate your good work. Whatyou do is no more tattling that it is to call the police if you see a stranger messing with your neighbor's door or window.

I don't think it has anything to do with you turning them in for abuse. You are doing what we all must do, to keep this a clean and fun site. Keep up reporting them dear. Thank you.

I'm sure that places like mylot appreciate people reporting abuse. Sites like this will always attract those not willing to abide by the rules and do whatever they can to look after themselves. Keep reporting them.

i report abuse on my topics only, and i really do not care if it does effect my rating or not because i think it is wrong when people just put junk in my discussion just so they can get paid more.

I don't go searching for abusers or cheaters but if I should come across a genuine case, then I will certainly report it. I have only ever reported people who have actually copied and pasted topics and responses and when I reported them, I gave both links to MyLot. No, I don't consider you a stalker, and I am sure MyLot appreciates all the help from it's members. I wouldn''t think that reporting abuse would effect our earnings, it has nothing to do with discussions and that is what we are paid for.

To be honest, I would think that Mylot would be greatful for people who help them to catch cheaters and abusers of the system. I am not sure how many people they have working behind the scenes for their team already, but with the amount of users on this site and the amount of posts being posted every day I can't see how even a team of 50-100 people could take care of everything! *laugh* It surely saves them some time and bother to have us users reaching out to help by pointing out obvious cheating and plagarism and abuse. I for one am glad to know that you are working to help! ^_^
