Why are most parents negative to computers?

Hey everyone! I just wanted your opinion on this: Why are almost every parent negative to gaming? In my case, my mom allways gets angry when i sit in front of the computer, but i cant see why.. She thinks that sitting in front of a computer makes you less social than those who are outside all day long. Most of my friends got it the same way. Is this because most parents know so little about computers? - Sonikk

Just as they say, sitting for hours on the computer does affect your health. Besides from affecting you eyes, the sitting posture affects the spine and also sitting for long hours without any walk could make you numb.

That's one good question. Rigth now I'm in my cousin's house. So when I sit here in front of his computer, my grand mother is asking "why you are sitting always in there? You have got one in your home. So switch off it." I can't explain about mylot to her. So I just didn't say anything and i'm continuing in here! Hope, one day they will say, dear go and sit in there, in front of your PC! But for that I have got to educate them computer!!

I think it's because there are a lot of studies out right now that show how bad TV is for you, and many people lump in computers with that. It is also because there are a lot of people who let computer games take over their life, and then they end up with fewer social skills. I knew one guy who spent so much time playing computer games that he failed out of school. It probably isn't because parents know so little about computers. Parents of kids now are the first generation to have grown up with computers.

I think they don't allow you to be adicted towards games for which you may neglect your primary objectives, like study or job like anything.. Bcoz, if you are adicted to game you will forget world.

Children or Adolescent often use internet for the purposes like Games or using Internet. They often surf the internet sites which are not recommended to them. Working on computer for long times often leads to addiction to it. so just listen to your parents whatever they say at this stage. It is essential for your curricular and personality growth.

Parents get mad when we sit infront of a computer because they think that playing games takes all our time. We tend to neglect certain things that a normal person does. We become less social. Chatting with someone on the net is not the samething as socializing inperson.

I think they are intimidated by computers for the most part. Some assume they are extra complicated to use, others just do not want to take the time to use them because they were not around when that person was younger.

first they're of an older generation then we're..computer wasn't popular to them maybe and they just scare we'll fail our schoolwork due to spending tons and tons of time into online gaming especially now not to mention with the trend of f2p and spending money on a game

i this is a typical reaction by parents because they know that by the computer you can access lots of information on the internet even those that are not appropriate to us. and i know sometimes they become so irrational when it comes to this situation but i think they maybe have have some reason maybe they noticed that you are beginning to become so dependent or give so much time infront of computer instead of doing something more important like social activities, assignements or housecourse. if you want to get things in better shape tell them to give you scheduled time of when to be online and when to stop this way you both made each other a favor.

They are a different generation. You're growing up playing computer games and chatting in internet with friends. This looks very strange for them. We must understand them. Times are just changing. Maybe we will deny some of the future technologies that our children will use. Who knew!?

well dude even i have the same problem. My parents think that if i keep playing games i will loose my self control and will just become an addict to that. They tell that i can do more resourceful things on the computer rather that playing games in it.They also insist me to play outside rather that spend my time in front of the PC games.

Maybe because you do it too much? Too many kids are sitting for hours on end infront of their computers. I know I did. What's wrong with going out? I wouldn't want my kids using it 24/7 either, though I will allow them some computer time every day. Are your grades slipping?

Being against gaming and against computers are two very different things! My parents loved that I was on the computer as a kid. I was playing educational games or fooling around with Q Basic (like Visual Basic, but far far far more simple). They didn't approve as much when I played Doom and Duke Nukem. My brother is a video game freak and doesn't really go outside at all. He doesn't have any real friends as far as I can tell. And he's definitely not social. Maybe there is something to it. For awhile he was also nearly failing all of his classes because he spent all his time playing video games rather than studying. If you can balance it though, I think it's just like any other hobby.

what u say is a part of the answer.in my view, parents think that gaming will spoil the functioning of the brain and that is the reason they hate computers.

Wellllll.... I think that parents just like to see us studying and sittin in front of a computer does definitly not make us less social. In faxt it makes us even more social. Yeah, most parents really do not know a lot about computers and they are to some extent scared of it. Besides u can gain experience and have fun on ur computer.
