When invited to dinner, what do you bring with you?

Whenever I am invited to for dinner with family or friends, I will offer to bring something. If they tell me not to bring anything, I usually offer to bring dessert, I insist upon it. There have been times when we pick up a bouquet of flowers for the host, or a bottle of wine. I always offer to help with the dishes.
