Golden Oldies...60's Television

United States

In the 60's the boom of the television industry exploded with many new shows. Do you remember them? I remember quite a few of them, even though I was young at the time. Some of my favorites were, "The Flying Nun", "My Three Sons", "Green Acres", "Petticoat Junctions", "Gunsmoke", and many more. Talk shows, like Dinah Shore, filled their time slots with chit chat and cooking segments. What do you remember about 60's tv?

I LOVED TV in the 60s. I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, The Addam's Family, The Munsters, The Monkees (I was in love with Davy Jones!), The Beatles Cartoons (and I usually hate cartoons). ALL the ones you mentioned above, though I wasn't a big fan of Gunsmoke. I preferred the comedies. Was Get Smart in the 60s or more 70s? And I've watched so many reruns of all these shows and still love them!!

I'm not sure about "Get Smart", I don't remember ever watching that one. I loved the Monkee's too. I had the biggest crush on Davy. Now, you brought to mind the Partridge Family and Leave it to Beaver. I think Partridge Family was the early 70's. I still love them too. Thank you very much for sharing your favorites.

I know, there are just so many that I remember. I wish television shows were that simple now. The plots were all so original back then. Thanks again.

Leave It To Beaver was at around the same time as Father Knows Best and The Ricky Nelson Show? Both great shows :) So many memories...

Cordelia - Wallpaper I created a while ago depicting Cordelia from the TV Shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. She was portrayed by Charisma Carpenter
Well I was born near the end of the 60's so I watched a lot of these in reruns. My favorite was "Star Trek". I watched that every week. I also watched things like "The Sonny and Cher Show", "Green Acres", "Petticoat Junction", "Bewitched", "The Addams Family," "The Munsters", "I Dream of Jeannie" and "The Twilight Zone". To me they were great shows to watch and I still watch some of them today when I can find them on. I wish I could find "Petticoat Junction" that was one of my favorites to watch. Oh well maybe TVLand will have it on one day.

Oh, I loved Petticoat Junction and Green Acres both. I don't know if they are even in DVD format. That would be great. It's okay about the picture, that's happened to me several times. It's a cool pic. Thanks for your addition to 60's favorites.

Who was in "My Little Margie"? I remember the name, but can't seem to recall the show. Those were some great ones. I wish I had cable. I'm in the mood for some good flashbacks. Thanks you so much for sharing my friend.

Why you young thing you! :-) LOL It's great that syndication is in place back then and even more so now, with cable. I am sad I don't have cable to be able to watch some of the good old shows. Yep, my dad was a "Gunsmoke" addict, lol. Thanks for sharing. ++

Thanks for replying. What did they show in Scottland and on the BBC back then? I am curious to know and maybe some others from over there will recognize and remember them also.

Hi! Wow, what a fun topic! LOL I remember Merv Griffin (he might have been more 70s), Hawaii 5-0, Judd for the Defense (there's an oldie but goodie LOL), F-Troop, the FBI (or an FBI themed show starring Efram Zimbalist Jr), Adam 12... Wow! Well I might have the 60s and 70 confused on a few of these, but I remember all of them from childhood! :-)

I know what you mean about the run over from the 60's to the early 70's. I wanted to add Mary Tyler Moore to my list, but couldn't remember for sure if it started in the 60's. I remember some of your favs too, especially Adam 12. One of the guys on their was so adorable, I had a huge crush on him. Thanks for sharing, I am glad you replied.

Really giving the old noggin a work out tonight. Some of these may be a little earlier or later than the 60s. Our Miss Brooks, Gale Storm, Love that Bob (a show about a photographer and his faithful companion Schultzie or Schotzie, played I think by the woman who went on to play Alice the housekeeper on) The Brady Bunch. The Lone Ranger (and his faithful companion Tonto.) Did anybody mention Bonanza? And how about Chuckles the Clown, Bozo the Clown, Sheriff John, and Billy Barty -- kids cartoon hosts. HR Puffnstuff, Gigantor, Simba the White Lion and the Flintstones. Most of the time growing up, we didn't have a TV, but reading these posts, I recognized most of the shows listed. Guess I didn't miss too much. "Thanks for the memories," (from Bob Hope's annual Christmas show. I'll just tug my ear as I say good night, ala Carol Burnett.

I recognize some of the shows. I love Carol Burnett and Tim Conway...actually her whole cast. I remember fondly the ear tug at the end of the show, and her with that mop and bucket. What a great memory. I also remember watching Bozo, and HR Puffnstuff was a favorite as well. Thank you for posting and your input and memories.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.!!!! My absolute fav show!!! Star Trek started in 1966 or 67. I remember watching Dark Shadows a gothic type soap opera on in the afternoons. Roy Rogers and Sky King on Sat mornings along with Fury!

I think my Mom sometimes watched Dark Shadows. Wasn't there another one something about "Storm"? Star Trek is a classic, I think it did start in the late 60's. Thank you for your response and the great memories you brought back to me.

I was born in the late 60's,but I love shows from that time. One of my all time favorites and a favorite of my 10 year old daughter is "Green Acres". I think those shows had values that kids now just don't see. I would like to see several of the major networks go back to those types of shows. It might just make the world a better place.
