I heard last night there is a congress man, or senator out in California that is submitting a bill to make it against the law to spank our kids. do you think this is right. I don't for the following reasons sometimes the following doesn't work with all kids time outs talking to them sometimes all actions you take just don't help them behave. what would you do then. A spanking works but it is now against the law. what would you do?

I think it's the slippery slope we have to be vigilant against. If we were to allow such a bill to pass, what comes next? Child abuse is already against the law. Spanking (while not something I personally endorse) is a popular and sometimes effective means of disciplining children. Why should the government determine which means of discipline we can use on our children, as long as we are not doing them harm? If we allow such a bill to pass, the next law could be one that states we HAVE to feed our children 4 servings of vegetables a day, or that our children are only allowed to watch tv for 1 hour a day. I really really think we need to be careful about how much we allow government into our homes and family matters.

I agree whole heartedly. my daughter for instance will not listen and a time out doesnt work for her neither does trying to talk. sometimes I think the only thing she understands is a spanking.
