Bron in the mud-soaked trenches of World War 1 which gave its name, the trench coat is today an indispensable part of any wardrobe along with t-shirts, jeans and that ever popular little black dress. The doubled-breasted raincoat, intantly recognisable the world over by its cut, cuff straps and shoulder epaulets, and its belt owes its existence to the invention of waterproof material by Thomas Burberry and the British company Aquascutum in the mid-19th century. The material was first used to provide some kind of protection from the damp for British officers serving in the trenches, but then went on to seduce popular imagination and the world of fashio design. The trigger for the trench coat's success came after 1918, when civilians impressed by the charismatic air that the coat lent the British officers began to adopt in en masse. Do think that trench coat can be a fashion worldwide? What do think?
