I was very nervous, to say the least, but I came out of it with flying colors. I'm told that they have so many anti-nausea medications and so on, that it's not as bad as it used to be. Of course, I was also told that the first is always the easiest. They tend to get harder as you go down the line. I have 6 months of this to go... once every three weeks, with weekly blood tests. Anybody else been there? What was your experience like? I'm just curious. Thanks!

An advice on nausea: You can try nibbling ice cubes for 2-3 times a day. Ice can also decrease the incidence of you developing mouth sores and oral ulcers. The day of chemotherapy is usually the easiest day. However, be observant of your body. Though you may not feel anything in the first 2-3 days, you're still at risk of developing "neutropenia" or decreasing white blood counts. Consult your doctor if ever you develop fever (this can be a sign of neutropenia). Hats off to all of you cancer patients, keep your spirit alive!

I can only echo all this advice.. please do be aware of what your body's doing. I was neutropenic after my first two docetaxel/taxoteres, and got infections. Fortunately, I caught it before I got a high temperature, so was sent home with antibiotics, rather than being admitted to hospital. This time, I have Neupogen injections (which will start tomorrow, for 5 consecutive days). They seem to give this over here in the UK, rather than Neulasta, because I think it costs less (charming, eh!)! If your mouth does get sore, or there's any sign of infection at all, phone the hospital asap.. it's easier to sort out if you get it early :o)
