i think you can try low-cost 'smart' house even a building, with mechanism to auto-regulate electricity consumption, having 2 or more power sources (analogous to hybrid cars)..

well i dont know much about things like this i'm only just starting out on my university course in earth sciences, but what you're doing sounds interesting. I know my oldest daughter has been learning about magnets at school and she's really got into the idea of them so, thinking on these lines why don't you do something on electromagnetism, would that be of any use to you, anyway, good luck i'm sure it will go well and i shall be thinking of you, good luck.
