If you do't have anything nice to say to someone, don't say anything at all

Do you find other people offensive? Do you criticize or judge them easily? What about giving a silent treatment?:D

My Mom always taught us this and I have tried to practice it all of my life. But I find it very hard ignore the loud and arrogant people (the ones who don't have anything nice to say) and sometimes I just feel the need to put them in their place.

I know it's not easy to do it but with constant practice you will learn to do it. Your mom is a virtuous woman teaching you such noble values.

I definitely agree that if you do not have something good to say to somebody, that is better to say nothing at all and avoid conflict and other problems by bad mouthing someone. Sometimes people upset me by the things they say or do around me but I feel it is better to not say anything at all then to confront them and make matters worse. Especially now a days, with society being much more violent than in the past. I think it is safer to keep our mouths zipped then to say something negative or harsh to someone.

Exactly. We could have prevented so many conflicts if we all knew how to keep quiet when it is necessary.

I can relate with you. I hate being noticed. But people can't resist noticing me. LOL! JK! It's just that I am annoyed to hear people always looking at the negative side of anything. I want to be with people who have a positive outlook all the time.

Well, that is exactly what I do. I just don't say directly and frankly to a person whenever I see something nasty or unlikable about him. I just keep silent and everything would be fine than if I'd blurt it all out to him and we'll only be having a very heated dispute.

If I feel the need to criticize something someone does or says, I think carefully before I respond to them and if I read it back and it sounds harsh I'll directly say that I don't say things because I want to hurt them, only because I want to help them. Sometimes it's impossible to tell a person how to fix a problem without citicizing the action they are taking to make the problem. I just hope that by the end of the conversation they know my intentions are good. :)

That's good attitude. But some people just criticize for the sake of criticizing. As if they can't see anything good. If we criticize we must learn to appreciate first.

I had a couple people respond to a couple of posts saying that I was a baby. My posts were not complains but things I wanted opinions on. I ignored their comments as it is better not to retaliate and make things worse or cause problems with other members. Their comments will come back to bite them eventually, whether it is online here or elsewhere.

That's wonderful idea. Just ignore them because there's no use arguing with them. Thanks for your response.
